From St. Joseph's Preparatory School

Go anywhere in the Delaware Valley and mention the Prep and people will know the excellence produced here since 1851. They will know that a graduate of St. Joseph's Prep is more than just a scholar: they are leaders in business, in education, in law, in politics. They are "men for and with others" who serve their world.

We know that when it comes to selecting a high school, you can pick a school, or, you can choose an education. At the Prep, students get TWO educations—one in the classroom, and one from the world around them—both create bright, passionate and well-spoken young men, prepared to take on college and the world!

We're proud of our Jesuit heritage, as well as our downtown location in a thriving city like Philadelphia. With a "campus" like this, it's no wonder our students come out with a well-rounded perspective, a transformed sense of humility and justice, and an ever-open eye toward their city, their fellow citizens...and an entire world of possibilities ahead of them.

I love the Prep! It has a great location right in the heart of Philadelphia and manages to challenge students with an incredible academic rigor. The Prep is formed by its Jesuit character and commitment to service and forming men for and with others. It has great athletics as well with a nationally-ranked football program and great opportunities in other sports such as soccer, basketball, and lacrosse. Overall, the Prep brings out the best in students forming great moral characters they will hold for the rest of their lives.

The academics are challenging to those who accept the challenge. That comes by individual experience that can only be attained by an experience within an extracurricular. The teachers care for the students, and the students care for each other. Long-renowned has been the "brotherhood" that exists at St. Joe's Prep. Unfortunately, however, it is difficult to extend this brotherhood to students of color for the very reason that the school is over 80% white, even though it sits in the heart of North Philadelphia. The arts are a shame to the entire school, with a Fine Arts Department of only 3 people as of 2019. The administration, which unfortunately rivals the number of faculty, fails to keep a pulse on the student body, making decisions that only propel forward the sports teams and the school's endowment. St. Joseph's Prep offers a wonderful high school experience to teenage boys, forming them into young men who are (supposed to be) men for and with others.
Best experience I have had in my life! Students are more than encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities with the later busses. I felt almost over prepared for college. I now have an amazing network of friends and fellow alums all across the area. Graduating from the Prep is one of my proudest achievements. I cannot praise this school enough.
