St. John Paul II School Reviews
Rating 5 out of 5 14 reviews
My 3 sons all attend St. John Paul II School in Middletown. I'll be very honest; the relief I have felt over the last two years has been immeasurable. The school has always been wonderful with a strong, tight community of families, parents, educators and administrators. Here, everyone is always on the same page...trying to do right by the kids. However, after the last two years with Covid, quarantines and distance learning, I have fallen in love with the school again and again. The teachers pivoted, over a weekend, into distance learning. It was challenging for all of us, but the teachers and admin were always on the other side working with us to do the best for our kids. I am so grateful for the care and education my sons are receiving. The school is safe, driven by their mission and they nurture our children with compassion, care and a sense of obligation. Lions forever!
We have two children enrolled in St. John Paul II. We have tried both Middletown Public School and JPII, so we do have a comparison between the two schools. Although JPII does not have as many activities offered as a large scale school district, we feel the smaller class sizes and traditional "old-school" education are worth the trade-off. I feel our children are safe, and have a community of caring educators who really get to know the kids. I would say to any parent looking to send their child to JPII, prepare to be involved! There is a 20 hour per family service agreement (there are plenty of ways to meet that), and it is actually a nice way to meet other families. I would also say that although the school is Catholic, it's not a strict requirement, and although religion is incorporated, you can still be non-Catholic and feel included in everything the school is doing.
A world class community of staff, teachers, and families. Safety is their number one priority pre and post COVID.
I signed my daughter up in grade 2 for the curriculum especially for religious education, Spanish and Technology. She’s in grade 6 now and we expect complete her middle school experience here. I have not been disappointed. In fact, the school has exceeded my expectations on many levels. The parent association is well represented and responsive. All the teachers look out for the students above and beyond the call of duty. There are endless after school programs and activities for the kids to choose from (ski club, chess, art, STEM, track, soccer, basketball, rifle, etc.) This was most surprising for a school this size.
While I was attracted to the STEM offering. I was also quite pleased with the “awesomeness” of the arts. The music teacher (incl. band) is remarkable. The art teacher introduces several concepts, and the kids get to display. Many more great things !
