The majority of the teachers are excellent, kind, caring, etc. I believe we have the best athletic director and assistant principal EVER. They always have the backs of their students and they advocate phenomenally for the student as Saint Helens High. I don’t like how that at Saint Helens High, how difficult it was the express your opinions, especially if your opinion differed from the majority. I personally am conservative and every time I tried to express my opinion my classmates, some teachers, etc. would make me feel like I was an awful person for thinking that way. I don’t deserve that and I also don’t bash others for thinking differently than I do. If I could change one thing about SHHS, it would be the mindset and mentality of the school itself.

I really enjoyed going to all of the sports events. I also enjoyed how hard the student leadership worked at providing fun activities and events. Every major holiday there were fun competitions and festivities. It got many people involved. I wish what would change is some of the staff or faculty. There are some pretty amazing teachers but I had a couple of teachers that were not very kind. I felt like they were teaching because it was a job and not because of the students. I even had a teacher and a substitute teacher make fun of my religion on two different occasions. It was shocking, especially as a young teenager, I didn't even know what to say.
For the most part, my time spent at this high school was not a waste. I learned a lot and met a lot of really great people.
Your experience at St. Helens High School is entirely what you make it. Sure, the bathrooms suck, and our food is subpar. We don't have any hard classes and being prepared for college is left to you. If you are determined to make it the best four years of your life you can. The band department is fantastic and it's easy to make friends there. We have a good drama teacher and the arts are decently funded. The teachers are almost always friendly, even if they aren't the best teachers. If you have a positive attitude and make friends it'll be fine. But if you only focus on the negatives, it's a sad four years of your life.
