Two of our children attended one year of middle school here and hated it. It isn't just lacking diversity in race, but in diversity of thought. It is very conservative. The dress code is formal. The "Christian" atmosphere is extreme in many ways (e.g., when bringing a problem to administration, the solution was 5 minute prayer; 7th grade has no history class - instead... Bible); my children did not find the actions of their peers to be welcoming and inclusive - bullying is common. Similarly, the opportunities for parental involvement were limited and parents unfriendly.
The sports program is surprisingly competitive in middle school, there are tryouts and cuts - and most teams practice every day after school. The year our kids were there, only one play was put on including middle school, and it was for the whole school (elementary through high school) - only a handful of middle school students got to perform.
Academics were fine - not as rigorous as they'd have you believe.

My daughter started St. David's this year and we both have been thrilled with the school. Her teachers are invested, encouraging, challenging and very responsive. More than once, my daughter has stated how supported she feels by both the teachers and fellow students. I switched her from public schools as I worried she was not getting the academic instruction she needed. St. David's has been the perfect fit. One item to note, the school is Christian faith based and that doctrine is evident in school communications, parent groups and the values instilled in students.
This school is a special place. Our son moved here in high school and it was the difference maker in his academic progress as the teachers really invested in him taking him to a level he never would have achieved otherwise at his old school. Sports are great as they are make them competitive and it proves for a great product on the field/court. Social life is very good as our son was included right away and never felt out of place. Finally, the Christian culture is clear throughout everything that happens every day on campus which we love.
