This school gives students a sense of community like no other. Although it has its flaws, the faculty, staff, and administration are welcoming and look to provide students with a great experience. The one thing I would say is that the school needs to put a little more into academics as opposed to athletics. This also depends on the type of student that you are and which one you sway towards more, although you can be well-rounded in both. the school should better I must add that it does have a new Girls Prep Division, separate from the Boys Prep Division (both are high schools), and the dynamic of the school has been all the more wonderful. Endless opportunities and endless ways to network!
This school is like no other. The bonds and friendships I have made attending this school will last for many years to come. The teachers care about their students. I find that hard to find in many schools.
St. Benedict's is a very different than what you would normally think of when you think about what a school in Newark, NJ would look like. We are a diverse group of students from all walks of life and nations. Our teachers and leaders allow us (the students) to make decisions on our own and allow us to succeed and fail. It is not easy at first but, I have already learned that change and challenge are good and make you stronger. You should come to school to learn more than just history and math, gainin life skills to go out into the world is just as important. This school offers an environment that allows you have your voice heard, supported and challenged. It is unlike any school anyone will ever attend.
My over all experience at St. Benedict's Prep was unforgettable. When it comes to their academic curriculum, Benedict's is like other private schools, but when it comes to learning important values and live lessons they exceed over any other school anyone can image. Their "student run" schooling system is excellent for students to learn leadership values and how to be effective leaders in the future. They also teach important life lessons most other schools do not teach like, work ethic, integrity, and that you have to work hard for everything you want in life. At Benedict's student are obligated to participate in extracurricular activities which makes the student to more involved with what happens around school, and makes the process of applying for college easier. St. Benedict's has a 98% success rate at sending their students to college and other places like the NAVY. If it wasn't thanks to their very effective method for sending students to college I wouldn't be in college.
Overall, my time at St. Benedict's was extremely enjoyable. It was easy to talk with other students regardless of their grade and this also applied to the teachers. The teachers and staff clearly cared about every student and tried their hardest to teach and solve any issues students had in and outside the classroom. It was a terrific 4 years attending this highschool.
My experience at SBP was very unusual and exciting. The school is extremely diverse and differs from any other high school.
Nice school, it makes you fell open to the adults and students. This school makes you feel like as if you are at home.
The school has quite a reputation in terms of resources and the mentorship that goes on at the school. The fact the school is actually student-run is impressive and brings about a sense of pride in the student body. To know that we as students in high school have the power to change the schedule and alter the layout of the school's operating system is empowering and inspiring. While the school may be very strict it definitely makes "the way life is" very clear and I personally appreciate it.
Great school overall. Sports teams are nationally recognized. The soccer team holds the record for most National Championships won by a high school. SBP holds this record by 11 more national titles than the next team in second place. This school is extremely diverse and turn smart kids down just to give inner city kids equal opportunity. The basketball, soccer and baseball team have numerous athletes playing professional. Basketball, soccer, track, cross country and wrestling are always ranked nationally. Fencing, swimming and water polo are always ranked in the state. Great campus in the middle of Newark NJ. About a 20 minute train ride to NYC. On the same block as NJIT, Rutgers university (Newark campus) and Essex county college. This prestigious school sends kids to big schools, small schools, Ivy League schools. It has been said to be a brotherhood and a family for life. It is often described as a fraternity. The alumni support financially and physically is amazing.
St. Benedict's is a school that emphasizes community, leadership and brotherhood. The students there have great relationships with faculty members as they were faculty members. And the school also heavily utilizes its counselling centre, which is a resource not seen in many schools today. In addition to Academics, mental health is also an aspect that is taken seriously.
The school really offers the students here the ability to have a voice. Any action they make can affect someone else, in either a good or bad way. The bond shared in this school is something no other school has to offer.
Great school , great academics , great people outstanding diversity. The values taught are unmatched. Keep doing what you guys are doing.
The school has been around for over 150 years and virtually all their kids go to (and graduate from) good colleges. They offer numerous academic, athletic, and other activities and the school/students have gained local and national success and recognition in all those areas. They have outstanding successful alumni represented in every occupation, who are also great citizens, and who continue to support the school. My father, uncle, myself, brothers, sons, and nephews all went there. Not sure what else you can say or do.
Saint Benedict's preparatory school is a perfect environment for education it is an excellence school I love the way they prepare the students for college I'm proud of them!!!!!!!
Good charitable vision but lacks structure and too much emphasis on sports. Heavily dependent on donors fir support and so food and laundry facilities for boarding house is not optimal. The location in Newark is also a disadvantage and the honor code is not consistently upheld. For a young man who needs to be saved from an at risk Situation then SB would be an option, not the place for a well raised kid to be exposed to some kids who have had difficult childhood and could be subject to stealing, other issues in formative years. Lots of life lessons early so environment makes kids have to grow up really fast. Cannot treat them like adults but rather they need guidance and advice during these crucial teen years to be a well rounded adult.
This school has a legacy in which every student is involved with, it doesn't matter where you come from either you'll fit in. This school has given me the confidence, skill and guidance to successfully meet my goals and learn that I can accomplish anything I set myself to complete. Brotherhood is also a strong factor here; in which students will learn that 'Whatever hurts my brother hurts me' and engages students in depending not only on themselves but also on each other during times of need.
One of the best school in the country, teaching leadership, community and faith
