St. Ambrose Elementary School Reviews

Teachers give loads of classroom and homework daily. Parents and their villages must stay abreast and actively participate to ensure your children understands & completes the work, and, then, turns in/receives credit for her/his assignments. There was little interaction between parents and teachers in school year 2017-2018.

Sports, club activities, meetings, and fundraisers are held after school and on weekends. This creates a long day/week for everyone. We noticed teachers do not attend sports, clubs, or end of year class activities unless it happens during school hours (8AM -3PM) in Saint Ambrose’s building.

Saint Ambrose School operates as a business. The focus of a business is to create ways to make money. Late fees, fundraisers, and annual assessments helps to keep Saint Ambrose’s school doors opened. This current paradigm is a shift from previous school years. The focus was on nurturing and giving young students the freedom to SOAR successfully.

Curriculum for middle/junior high students is Math, Religion (Family Life), Science, Social Science (Studies), and Language/Literature Arts. PE, Lunch, Sports, etc. are held in multi-purpose room. Middle/junior high students need building/facilities separate from pre-k, kindergarten, and elementary graders.

Playground needs refurbishing. Children play and have fallen on hard concrete, no grassy areas. New basketball hoops were installed in 2017.

Parents/Villages participation is strong. Saint Ambrose can achieve more if they received funding & resources from other sources.

School is safe and clean for children.

Prior graduation rate has been 100%. Former students have excelled; many are in colleges in USA; former principal was nurturing and provided students the freedom to develop, grow, and be successful.

Lunch menu can be healthier. Parents choose what their children will eat. Many thanks to former principal who started lunch program 10 years ago.
School building and facilities are inadequate because there is NO SEPARATION of students in pre-k, elementary, and middle/junior high school. Pre-kindergarten to 8th graders use the same building, the same facilities. There is no passage or closure between grades. Students trek along until they graduate from 8th grade.

The middle/junior high students need their own school and facilities. There is no distinction between pre-k children, elementary school children, and young middle/junior high school students.

School Hours, 8AM to 3PM, are not accommodating for the students. This is a long day.

NO BUS SERVICE. Parents must drive children to/from school. This is a challenge because you must arrive by 7:55AM. School doors are closed in your child’s face. No breaks are given due to inclement weather, traffic, or emergencies. After 7:55AM - $25 Late Fee; and After 3:15PM - $25 Late Fee.
