From Springmont School

Springmont, the oldest Montessori school in the Southeast, offers students 18 mo. - Middle School an integrated, experiential learning environment that inspires innate curiosity to grow into a life-long love of learning. Classrooms are large, light-filled and thoughtfully-prepared while the campus’ natural areas, gardens and farm animals afford rich outdoor science lessons. Multi-aged classes allow younger children to learn from older ones and older students to assume leadership roles. Special Montessori materials offer students hands-on activities that concretely reinforce skills, lessons and concepts. Highly-experienced teachers guide students through an individualized curriculum that develops the whole child - socially, emotionally and academically. PE, Spanish, Art and Music are important parts of the experience. Students’ Springmont graduates are confident, collaborative, engaged learners, prepared for success in Atlanta’s premier high schools as well as life beyond academics.

I have two children at Springmont and simply love the place! The Elementary teachers are SO wonderful and after attending a recent "alumni night" we are sold through 8th grade. The secondary school placement is excellent and focuses on the "right fit" for each graduate. One additional comment - I'm not sure what the person who said the headmaster did't care about them is all about but my children love "Mr. Jon". He opens car doors every morning, his door is always open and he invited me and my husband in for an individual conference to discuss our experience last spring. If you value a Montessori school you should look at Springmont.

My son started Springmont last year in 3rd grade. Teachers and administrators are so kind and welcoming. The school is nestled in beautiful Sandy Springs neighborhood on a lovely plot of land. Classrooms are bright and airy, many windows overlook the goats and chickens that students in upper elementary care for. Franklin the turkey is a welcoming presence every day for the children. We wouldn't choose to be anywhere else!
Kids who need little bit of help - are sent to therapist for behavioral needs, and a plus program(extra $$$$) for academic needs. Kids who gets Montessori right are left to themselves, and don't get proper attention and guidance. And in practice, this Montessori school doesn't recognize the leadership in introverts.
If you ask more than one question, you hit the wall very fast.
Otherwise, it seems to work for some.
And I wouldn't fall for the wall art they display. Maria Montessori didn't even want the kids to do free style drawing.
