My senior year was absolutely amazing! Although the administration definitely targets people, some of them are very helpful and you have a mix between amazing teachers and some really sucky ones. The sports at Spanish Springs are super fun and everyone is really involved with them. I do wish there were more clubs to be a part of.
Spanish Springs High School is a school filled with diamonds in the rough. Not only are these diamonds students, but also a few amazing teachers. High school can be rough on everybody, but most people know that one good teacher, just like a good coach, can completely change your life. About 4 out of the 15+ teachers I have had have created a fiery passion inside of me that didn’t awake until I entered their classrooms. They create personal relationships with their students that’s creates a comfortable environment and helps students receive an amazing learning experience. I wish more teachers at this school were like this, but these few have made my whole high school career so refreshing and smooth. Additionally, although there are a few problematic people (including students and staff), it is manageable like most other things in life.
My experience at Spanish Springs High School was not the greatest. Of course, the pandemic must be considered, which ate up about three years of my experience. Even through normalcy, my experience was less than valuable. I met lots of new people and learned about less than the average high school student. I will admit, some of my classes were difficult, but I was never offered help or other accommodations to relieve my confusion throughout the class. Many of the teachers, who have been working there since the school opened, are the most lazy and unaccountable people. Their job is to be an ideal role model as well as teach their students to the best of their abilities. The role model projected to me was: “I don’t want to do this, so I won’t.” There were some highlights, like the sexism in sports or the constant sexualisation of minors due to dress code policies. Ignoring all of the negative comments, I can proudly graduate and hopefully learn something useful in college next year.
