Overall it was a great high school experience, there is lots to do. Many clubs, sports teams, afterschool programs, and classes to take, are sure to interest many students. Educational wise, there are AP classes, IB classes, the IB diploma, and dual enrollment in partnership with our local community college, IVC. All of these are ways that the students can work on gaining college credits during their time in high school and better prepare for the future. Other pathways in the school are SAVAPA and HOSA, which help enrich the students with experience for the major they are thinking of focusing on when they continue their studies after high school. SAVAPA focuses on the arts and is made up of different components, visual arts, animation, theater, and dance. HOSA, on the other hand, is a pathway for those interested in the medical field, it nurtures future health professionals, helping them pinpoint what area they want to focus on studying. Overall the school is very well-rounded.
My experience at Southwest was definitely a memorable one. I was able to be involved in school culture such as ASB and our performing arts program SAVAPA. The reason why I chose to go to Southwest was for their amazing arts program that allowed diverse types of craft such as theatre, dance, music, animation, and art to students who wanted to express their creative and passionate drive for the arts. The students, teachers, and administration were also a huge part of why Southwest was very memorable to me. I got to meet so many different people that helped make my years at Southwest ones to remember. Althought my senior year was cut short, I still was able to make the best of my time at Southwest.
In my time at Southwest, I feel like I have not been able to accomplish much. I have taken part in many extracurriculars and higher-level classes and feel severely underrepresented for all the things I've done. In all my classes, it's like I'm sitting in a room doing and learning very little. I would much rather take this time to do things that I am more interested in and accomplish more, but my school does nothing to support students. Not only that, but we receive many threats throughout the year and the staff has done nothing to make the students feel safer.
