Southwest Elementary School Reviews
Rating 4.9 out of 5 10 reviews
Southwest is a true neighborhood school, nestled right in South Durham. The administration cares about the students and really leads by example. They’re consistently open for dialogue and strongly encourage parent involvement, because they truly believe that partnership leads to better outcomes for their students. The teachers also seem to really reflect school leadership, and value an overall positive environment where learning is encouraged and the child is paramount.
While I’m sure they’ll be held to the antiquated “test score” measurements that so many of our primary schools are bound by, I’m happy that my children attend Southwest and appreciate the education that they’ve received thus far.

My daughter just finished kindergarten and loves her school! She’s in the dual language program, and loves learnng Spanish everyday. She did not seem frustrated at all by the new language and has progressively really well in her reading skills (in English) this year.
Southwest is an excellent school in South Durham, the faculty celebrates the diversity of the school through the two way Spanish/English immersion program and by being a Community School not just for the children that attend but also for their families as well that stand as a model for all the other schools in the region. Our family has been very happy with our child's education and childhood experience at this school. I would highly recommend visiting Southwest and speaking with their administration or visiting one of their community events and speaking with a family with children that attend Southwest about all that Southwest has to offer.
