Southwest Career & Technical Academy was a great school! I went to this school for all four years for high school and absolutely enjoyed it. There is a lot of diversity here and that is my favorite thing because I am able to connect with my fellow classmates and peers. Furthermore, this school offer a lot of professional courses such as Culinary, Nursing, Respiratory, and Automotive! There are also design programs including Fashion Design, Web Design, Interior Design, and Graphic Design! I love that Southwest Career & Technical Academy offers all these unique programs because it allows students like me to explore different options! The only downside to this school is that there are a lack of sports outside of P.E. And clubs. I would love to see that change in the future because that would be something else students can explore. This school also doesn’t offer music because it is more focused on professional courses. I would love to see music as a new program in the future!
Coming into this school as a freshmen, I was really excited to spend the next four years here because it felt so much like a college campus! And it's true. The school does focus heavily on college and career readiness, offering certification courses and industry-related experiences. However, staff is a hit or miss. Some you would love to invite to your wedding, while others you graduate loathing. There also isn't a lot of school spirit, even if students try. Clubs are pretty hard to run and activities are severely limited by administration. From an education standpoint, this is a great school to go to. However, as a high school student, I can't say I've made any memorable experiences during my time here.
Southwest CTA is an amazing school that promotes hard work, diversity, acceptance, and pushes students to be the best they can be. The teachers there are especially friendly, experienced, and are easy to connect to. The curriculum really challenges students to expand their knowledge and thought process, and the workload is easily manageable. One of the best aspects of the school are the program areas, especially the Culinary Arts and Hospitality program, as students have the opportunity to gain hands on experience in an industry level kitchen and learn under a former professional chef with extensive knowledge and experience in the field. Although there are several clubs, including Filipino club, BU, psychology club, and more, there is a slight lack in school culture due to the lack of sports.
