SAMS Academy is an inclusive, free, STEM charter school, located on Albuquerque’s west side adjacent to Double Eagle II Airport. SAMS offers a one-of-a-kind approach to our core curriculum and exciting electives. Our vigorous online curriculum allows students to work with guided support at school and independently at home, while fostering self-motivation and tools for success. Through our SMART Lab, learners are empowered to explore the STEM standards through hands-on projects using cutting-edge technology. The SAMS Academy aviation program is a ground breaking experience for students who are motivated to get hands on with their learning. It’s OK. The only reason the school is still running through, is because of the aviation program. Edgenuity is stressful and we don’t learn anything. In 2 years I may have learned some geometry and history, but not much else. I respect the aviation program, but there curriculum sucks. People think it would be great to work ahead, but it only adds stress because you have 4-6 other classes also that need to get ahead. Some teachers are great, some are good, and some are terrible, but that’s like most schools.

Some things to note if you are thinking of coming here;

1. Don’t expect to get pity votes, you won’t.
2. If your coming for the aviation program, be prepared to work and work and work to get your goals.
3. I’d you wanna do sports, there is either Basketball or Archery, and for clubs the only prominent one is student council.
4. The school is entirely online, even at school. Make sure your kid knows that they will be online for a long time.

Review Southwest Aeronautics Mathematics & Science Academy

Southwest Aeronautics Mathematics and Science Academy has teachers and staff that are there for you daily, pushing and routing for you to succeed. The school has an edgenuity program that allows you to progress and move on as quickly as you would like.

I have gone to SAMS for over 5 years, and I am in their graduating class of 2020. I have loved my experience here, the flexibility in coursework, the amazing extracurriculars that are offered, and the wonderful faculty and peers. One of the great programs offered is the "SmartLab" in which you can use and learn about technology and equipment you may not have a chance to otherwise. The dual credit program here has been incredible in the past, but, this is changing due to stricter state regulation. There is also an amazing aeronautics program at the school. But, I would not say this school is for everyone. You need to be very self-motivated to make sure you are completing the self-paced core classes. I have seen a few people have to stay "seniors" for one or two extra years as they did not stay on track. The other thing would be that there is not much time to socialize or work with other students. But overall, I think that SAMS is a wonderful school, with many amazing opportunities.
