Throughout the four years spent at Southside High School, I experienced the good, the bad and the ugly. The academics were also so fun to learn because the teachers should how much they really wanted to help each student. I always felt that there was something I could be involved in and I know that most all other students attending did as well. Moving to Southside my freshman year was difficult because it was such a small school and very political as people would say. I became a varsity starter and made people mad as I moved in that year from a different state. However, I stood my ground and knew that if one person was not standing with me at Southside High School that there were 2 more right by my side.
I enjoy Southside High School for it's close proximity towards my home, it is a very easy drive there and back. It has some great members of it's faculty that are good at their job along with being invested in their students. However, it does put less emphasis on the arts in favor of sports. It would be great if they showed more love towards Theater, Art, etc.
I was accepted and made good friends. The teachers were concerned and helpful. My principal was supportive and encouraging. The community was safe and congenial. I very much appreciated the opportunities aprovided to me and the situation in which I was cultured. In this day and age the quality of people with which I was associated is rare and valuable. If I had the opportunity again, I would recommend others to develop themselves in this location. Southside, Alabama is a safe, productive and inclusive community that offers all peoples, regardless of race, creed, color, sex, national origin or sexual orientation, to be the very best they can be. Peoples of all temperaments, talents and convictions are encouraged to exceed to achieve their utmost potential. I am grateful for being able to have moved to this municipality, as it has allowed me to flourish, endure and experience differences in talents and convictions. There is no development as an individual without acceptance.
Southside High School has lots of great qualities to it. Its academic means are average, meaning that they do in a sense get you ready for college, but not at the level at which I believe it necessary. Our clubs range from a robotics club to a gaming club. Students are your typical high schooler. Most of our teachers are nice, productive, and good people. Overall, Southside High School is one of the best high schools in Northeast Alabama that you could go to.
This high school is an amazing school. Everyone is so nice and the staff is always helping everyone. The faculty want every student to enjoy their time here and they most definitely achieve that goal.
My biggest complaint would be the counselors. They put in minimal effort in all areas. Scheduling is a mess, so don’t bet on getting the classes you sign up for. There are not many opportunities that are brought to students’ attention, so unless you’re proactive and looking out for yourself, don’t expect much. Some teachers/administrators do try to keep students’ best interest in mind. Like any school, there are problems. Southside is overall an average high school.
It was okay. There is better but that’s expected. Teachers are generally good and academics are too. I wish there were more clubs and activities. Sports other than football are also impressive, as are the arts.
Southside High School is a good school. I won't lie. But, after graduation, I realized it was not the normal high school experience, nor was it a helpful one. There are many, many teachers that are a disgrace to teachers and have no business having authority over students. Some teachers have strong, strong favorites and most teachers make it quite noticeable who they do and don't like. Good teachers shouldn't make it obvious they don't particularly like a student. About 80% of the administrators are a joke and disgust me even remembering how they treated my peers and me. Athletes are extremely, non-arguably favored over every student- but only the sports athletes they care about. AP students get the better college ready skills and help to get there, while kids that aren't AP are looked at as if they're hopeless. This school is good, but there is a lot, a lot to improve on. And just so other parents are aware- there is 0 separation of church and state, and sexual harassment.
At Southside High School, there was so much opportunity around me! There were all kinds of extracurricular activities, such as fall fests and dances, and many clubs. Many of my friends and I joined the robotics team, which was such a unique part of my experience. I was also in an art class with one of my top favorite teachers of all time. All of the teachers at this school were willing to talk to you in times of need, or just to talk to if you needed a friend! Even though I am not there anymore thanks to the COVID-19, I am still able to have a chance to communicate with my fellow friends and teachers through the internet. I will always remember my time here at Southside High School, both being physically there, and having online classes.
In my 4 years of High School, I have had many wonderful experiences growing up. I'm slowly becoming an adult, and the school gave me many opportunities for me to figure out the person I am today.
Southside High School has a great support system in place for it's students. While I did not agree with all the different ways that the teacher's taught in, I know the teacher's were always there for us. I went through a lot of tragedy with my classmates in my years attending the school and they always made sure our mental health was put above all. I would however, like to see more belief in the teachers in their students. I felt I was not challenged and completely prepared for the world of colleges. While I am still attending college and plan on going to Auburn in the fall, I wish I was pushed more to pursue a four-year first, or to set my expectations higher for myself. I feel with the push from more teachers and the shown belief in their students, more students from this school with achieve higher education.
I like the experiences and learning I did there . I was in the Southside marching band so I met many wonderful people there . I was theatre and had a wonderful time doing that as well along with choir and many of the school activities where very fun . I learned a lot from Southside high
Southside High School is a wonderful place where a student's potential can really shine through. The hardworking staff and administration make sure that children grow and succeed as members of society. Campus is kept clean and so are the fields attached to it. The teachers also dedicate precious time in bettering the minds of students and preparing them for more than just college.
This a beautiful high school. A friendly environment. Safety is top notch. Lots of clubs and activities. The teachers are top notch. The band and music departments are superior and received all 1s at competitions. There is plenty of sports for the students to participate in. You can not go wrong enrolling your high schooler in this school.
The friendly environment between staff and students was appealing, though the student body consistently molds into a boring and negative mob.
Southside High School was a great 4 year experience. It was very educational for me. They offered AP classes which I took advantage of and gained college credit, which saved me some time in money during college. I think they prepared me well for college, and I am better student and person today because of Southside High School.
I have absolutely loved being a student at southside. They have provided endless opportunities for me during my three years.
