Southside High school is, in my opinion, a great school. The atmosphere is inviting, the teachers are enthusiastic about their job, and the administration seems like they care for their students. Some downsides, however, include the disregard for the arts and business classes at the school by getting rid of debate classes, art classes, and theater classes. I would also include the fact that not all cases of bullying are handled properly. Although, these flaws could easily be said about any school, not just Southside. Overall, the school is academically helpful, inclusive, and offer a wide variety of clubs/activities to partake in.
I love how the principal works hard to give us the energy and resources we need. For example, she makes sure that every student knows what is going in school, future plans, and opportunities for change. With our previous principal, the school lacked major school spirit. With her bright and cheerful personality, everyone just feels awake and energetic around her. She also emphasizes student voice, where anyone can be heard in order to have improvement and increase our satisfaction at school. However, I didn’t like the lack of compassion from some teachers/staff. The library opens up quite late and the counselors are almost never in their office when we look for them. Some workers do not care for the students; therefore, perform poorly with their job and not provide us the time and resources we need.
What I liked the most about Southside was how nice and caring the teachers were! Some of them are so dedicated to helping you learn and understand everything that we learn that year. Some of the teachers there could use just a little bit of an attuide adjustment and be more open and willing to help students understand the material that is being taught to us students.
