Southern Valley is alright. With the new administration, the school should improve. They really want to bring more opportunities to the school. There is plenty to do, however, some students don't always participate or put forth their best effort. There are technology classes, however, being a school in the middle of the country means students tend to more ag-oriented. The counselor is great, and if students need more help, another counselor comes out one day a week. Everyone is pretty friendly to one another, despite the few "bad apples". Someone will always find a friend here. The teachers are pretty passionate as long as the student puts forth an effort. They do their best to help those struggling. You really feel how much the teachers care for you. Overall, Southern Valley is good and will improve.
The school itself is wonderful we have plenty of fun while learning and the school board along with the administration and teacher are constantly finding new ways to help us students learn better. We have a tutorial time Monday through Thursdays and it's about 20-30 min each and it's very helpful for not only a study hall but time to get help from your teachers to have a one on one learning experience to truly understand everything.
I am currently a junior at Southern Valley High School. I enjoy going to scjool there. I love the relationships the teachers build with the students. I enjoy that our teachers incorporate hands on learning activities. Our school is extremely nice, we have sports students can participate in. The amount of extra circular activities we can choose from is crazy.
Southern Valley is an all around great public school, many programs are presented to students and help is always offered when necessary. Two counselors are available for teachers and students that need them and the school offers programs to help students that may otherwise have trouble graduating.
There is a lot to do and a lot of opportunities.
Academics are great. I just wish there was more online courses and more college-level courses that could have transferred credits.
I feel like the classes did not really prepare me for the real world, but the academics were still good. One class taught us about voting and taxes, which was really useful.
I had a great experience in high school, the only problem I had was how cliquey the students all were.
There are good opportunities for extracurricular options, the only problem is that not a lot of kids participate.
The teachers are very easy to get along with and there is a variety of classes to take.
The dress code is enforced here and the administration takes it seriously. The shorts must be fingertip length and the tank top straps must be wide enough.
The food could be a lot better and ever since we switched our head cook, it isn't as great. It isn't awful but if you do want amazing or better quality food it would be in your best interest to bring your own lunch.
The security at our school is impeccable. We have security cameras and an alarm system here. We haven't yet received a threat here but we still take precautions just in case.
