Teachers were great. School is pretty outdated on the inside, however they finally got air conditioning in the gym! Athletics are not too competitive, which I personally did not like very much but on the bright side anyone that wants to totally has the opportunity to participate in the sport of their choice.

This school was interesting to say the least. I have been to 4 different high schools during my high school career and I have to say that this was ranked probably number 2 on the list. The reason that I ranked it 3 out of 5 stars is due mainly to the structure of the graduation/college process that seniors go through. The guidance counselors send out your permanent transcripts for a fee of 2$ per, which is reasonable, but unfortunately many of my transcripts weren't sent out so when it came time to choose a college, I had a limited list of schools that accepted me/received my transcripts. I was bullied in school and went through all the necessary channels (teacher, guidance counselor, vice principal, and principal) and none of them did anything to help me. They just told me to ignore it. The teachers actually seem interested in how students perform in their academics and they are willing to help you with anything to assure that you have the chance to succeed.
.Rating SHS is hard because there are many great things, and aloof crappy things. As another review said, the bathrooms are often closed due to students smoking. The admin needs to find better solutions so that the students who actually need to pee don't waste 10 min out their class time to do so. SHS is VERY outdated, but because Mrs Jost and the janitors keep it "so clean" they won't rebuild until the school fails the "inspection". There are some really great teachers and the guidance office is very helpful. Some teachers tho, its like they go out of their way to to rude to some students and make their lives difficult. On a brighter note the students at SHS have so much spirit it puts other schools to shame. There are many more problems and many more great things about SHS, but like always there could be way worse which is why I rated Southern as average.
