If you are a music/theater student - Southern is great!
We typically have an average of one (1) "acting only" performance and one (1) musical per year. Our choir, band and string students go to various competitions each year and make us proud by placing. Additionally, our theater/choir teachers are striving to make sure that we are attending various activities around the DC Metro area this year . For example, we will be attending the musical "Le Miserable" at the Kennedy Center. After the musical, the cast will do a workshop and we will have the opportunity to ask the cast, musicians, and director questions.

My high school is in a small community where most of the teachers know you and are invested in helping you. Families support families in this school community such as creating meal trains during rough times, supporting each other in dance, sports, arts. Everyone knows each other’s names and value our differences. The thing I would change about my school is the school lunches. I am gluten free and there really aren’t any options for people with a gluten allergy.
All 4 of my kids went to Southern High school. Great school & Great teachers. My son was on the track and field team and went to State competition for pole vault his junior year and for 110 meter hurdles his senior year. His coaches were amazing. My daughter was on the cheer squad and loved it, my other son was great at art and loved his art teachers, he now wants to be an art teacher. They all loved the school and their teachers & coaches. I never had any problems communicating with anyone at the school when I had any concerns.
