Southern Boone High School Reviews
Rating 3.92 out of 5 53 reviews
This is a great school for football players and future farmers. That's about it though. We have little to no diversity and our school is mostly preparation for going straight into the work field. At best it helps their students get into tech school. We do have a great athletic department as well as a wonderful FFA program. Football games are a huge part of local culture. Unfortunately, our variety of clubs is very small, but we do have some good ones. Because this high school is so rural there isn't much to do in town. The high school itself is a bit run down, but it is relatively well kept. Gossip and rumors get around quickly and everyone in town either knows each other or is directly related. You will hear the same last names repeated again and again. I do not recommend this school for students seeking the best in academics. This school is better for those looking for a strong community.
Southern Boone is a good school as far as academics go, but the teacher involvement (as far as making sure that students are familiar with what the content being taught in class is) could be significantly improved. Some teachers don't provide study guides (which would be fine if they would tell us what's going to be on the test instead of just telling us to read ALL of our notes), and others don't even teach the material properly or accurately.
My experience with Southern Boone High School has had its ups and downs. I would not say Southern Boone is the best high school to go to although it get's the job done. Overall I rank it at a three out of five stars because a lot of the stars I chose for the ratings of my school below are very low. I love all of my teachers, they are not the problem. The problem with this school is that students do not learn enough about the real world. I know nothing about how taxes work, how insurance works, how college works, or how pretty much anything gets done. I am eager to learn these things although I feel as though our schools could do a better job of helping us prepare for our futures rather than sending us off on our own only knowing y=mx+b.
