Southern Boone has a great atmosphere that is largely accredited to their caring teachers and caring nature of the students that attend there. The teachers always help struggling students and want to see every student succeed. There is also active faculty and student members in the school community that advocate for mental health awareness and "Zero Tolerance for Bullying" movement. As it is a small town there is some inevitable drama in faculty relations sometimes, but usually it is a very professional place to learn. Also they lack in diversity, but that is more to do with the demographic of the district (rural).
Southern Boone High School has changed very much since my Freshman year, which was only four years ago. All things academic are good, classes are challenging, teachers are very motivated to help each individual student and the school district is small; which means the community is very close. The school district is growing very quickly though, and the school district could use a larger variety of classes offered. The school really only offers the basics; core classes plus a cooking class, yearbook, current events, etc. If there were honors classes offered, or a larger variety of the core classes, it would make the students more successful in college when they are offered hundreds of courses to take. Coming from such a small school with such little choices, it makes transitioning into college even more difficult and overwhelming.
The school has a good representation, however academics is not the focus on the administration. The admin/board is more focus on athletic achievements and not so much of the overall achievements of all students.
