The diversity was probably one of my favorite aspects of SSCPS. I had gone there K-12 so that is all I had known. I think it is a big part of what shaped me to be who I am today. I made great connections with peers who are some of the best people I've met. I never thought it was weird to call a teacher by their first name until I made friends with people who went to different schools. I think that was what helped form the connections I was able to make with teachers, which was a huge plus. I participated in a lot of activities and extra curriculars and I loved everything about them. I honestly feel like I have nothing bad to say besides I wish there was more space. But I also think the small space is what makes the SSCPS community so tight and involved!
I have been at South Shore Charter Public school for seven years now. While at first I thought I would never find my people at such a small school, I was proved to be wrong. As soon as I enrolled in the school, on my first day, a group of girls approached me asking what my name was. The first thing I noticed was the amount of girls from all types of backgrounds, ethnicities, and skin tones all getting along with big smiles on their faces. What I admire the most about my school is the diversity and the sense of community we have. Having a diverse student body allowed me to interact in a wider range of social groups as well as meet new people from different backgrounds and cultures.
South Shore Charter is a small high school with about 400 students in the high school building. This allows our student body to have stronger bonds with one another. When everyone is familiar with each other, it leads to an environment where each individual is comfortable and feels accepted.

This school is too small to have any benefits of a big school, and too big to have any benefits of a small school. It's in an awkward phase where it has no idea what it wants to be, and the learning environment suffers as a result. Elementary school still seems to be great though, but the high school experience is severely lacking. You'll get a decent enough education in the humanities, but STEM is a joke--pretty much all of the excellent teachers have left (very telling). The worst part of the high school experience is the complete non-existence of extracurricular activities though. There's a few sports, but outside of that, literally nothing to get invested in, the school shuts down as soon as the day is over. Admin is focused on accommodating students with learning issues, which is great, but unfortunately comes at the expense of students who are excelling. There's no avenues to excel if you're a strong student outside of poorly taught AP classes (at least for STEM courses).
