I loved going to this school for all four years as a student. I meet wonderful people here such as friends, teachers, and other staff members. The principal is a very nice person who cares a lot for his students. I also loved the beautiful plants that are planted in the campus. There are plenty of clubs and sports for one to attend. One spot that I attended and enjoyed a lot was soccer. I loved the sport, the nice coach, and amazing teammates. Before I went to this school during freshman year, I wanted to go to El Camino High School. I wasn't able to transfer to El Camino because there was no more space for new students. In the end I ended up going to South San Francisco High School which later I realized that it was the best choice that I ever took because I would have missed a lot of beautiful moments if I have never attended there. I highly recommend future high schoolers to attend to South San Francisco High School if they ever have the chance to. It's an amazing high school!
South San Francisco High School is overall an okay school. The academics and teachers are good if your student participates in higher-level courses such as honors and AP courses. Most good teachers besides honors and AP teachers leave within a few years because of how much the district pays the teachers. If your student is not in high academic classes the teachers are okay. Due to the proximity of Genentech, a bio-med company, the science and math departments in the school are fantastic (many new buildings have been funded by Genentech). The music and arts programs have fantastic, dedicated teachers. Besides football, the athletics at the school are pretty good.
I am a current student as of 2020. This school is pretty much average. This school is very diverse, but people just don't understand why they can't say the n-word even though they aren't black. Our school doesn't blink an eye whenever students say the n-word. Another problem, to me, was the Native American logo. Thankfully, a group of students went to the board and the board passed a resolution to change it. On a more positive note, this school has a Reversed inclusion physical education class. This class is when able-bodied students join the students with special needs in a PE class. Another positive note, our band and color guard is very good.
