My experience at South Plantation High School was overall great! When I first enrolled in the Environmental Science and Everglades Restoration magnet program and first even coming to the school I felt at home and welcomed. The broad and uniques subjects taught about what our environment and the Everglades faces on a daily basis is awakening to students and helps create a sense of urgency to help and restore our environment. Being on three different sports teams was great with my coaches not only helping me and coaching me to be able to play the game but molding me into a man for the world and life ahead of me. In a nut shell, South Plantation has taught me a lot and helped prepare me mentally and emotionally for my future.
my schools environment is very well organized. Most public schools aren't the best, but this school comes with a Cambridge program and has great sports and theater programs. The staff members make this school very friendly and make school enjoyable. We have many fundraisers that help our school get better everyday!
There were parts of my experience that fully enthralled me and made me feel truly happy and accepted. However, the guidance and administration lack proper dedication and maturity. I went through a rough patch, regarding mental illness problems, and they were practically impossible to work with. Only two counselors actually understand and will listen to you, rather than give you IS for having a panic attack in class. With the right teachers, your experience could be phenomenal. Mr. Beasley was possibly the best teacher I’ve ever had and I encourage anyone thinking of going to South to consider his Psych classes. I would warn against extracurriculars simply because the school faculty does not communicate with Club Leaders unless they actually LIKE the club. The school is very focused on sports and magnet, prioritizing those students over everyone else. All in all, my experience was great, but I had a proper support system.
