I really enjoyed South Meck! I went there all four years! There was nothing better than waking up every morning for 16 semesters and getting ready to go to school. The only thing I would like to see change is their lack of attention to academics. Other than that, really wonderful school
Review South Mecklenburg High School
The one thing South Meck has to offer is diversity. As a smart, middle class white male, it has been beneficial to me to be exposed to culture I otherwise would not be familiar with. Academics are not as strong. All throughout elementary and middle school, I was a slightly above average student, but all of a sudden at South Meck, I could sit in any Honors or AP class and get an A assuming I did at least 3/4 of the required work. Being able to get all As with minimal effort seems great, but not ever being challenged gets old quickly. Are there a few exceptions to this? Yes, but few. I've had a mixed experience with the administration. Some are great and will stop at nothing to help you as well as they can while some are just plain rude to everyone. I've had two counselors that have given me contradicting information regarding classes. All in all, if I could go back in time I would go to a different school. If you're a bright student, go somewhere where you'll be challenged.
Honestly, South Meck has been a great school and given me numerous opportunities. I have been able to get involved in clubs and activities, which have been absolutely amazing. The majority of my teachers have been extremely helpful. I now feel more than prepared for college. As for the school environment, the buildings are rather old, but renovations are being made. We have a language program, which adds to the school's diversity. The campus is beautiful because it has separate buildings and outdoor walkways and courtyards. It has a very large student population.
