A majority of the South Lyon school staff I have encountered have been invested in my individual success (personally and academically). The educators and student support staff frequently do more than what is required of their role, to assist students at risk or in need. There are several organizations/clubs that students can opt to join; the clubs and activities I participated in were supported by various school staff and coaches/mentors from within our community. Although certain activities tend to be highlighted a little more than others, overall the school community of South Lyon seems to celebrate any publicized wins or achievements (athletic and academic). The extracurriculars I was involved in regularly planned events that raised awareness and funds that gave back to the community. The school district does appear to want to create a variety of events that have potential to unite and involve multiple students with various interests (art, music, academic, athletics, etc…).
As a student of South Lyon High School for the past four years, I know these hallways like the back of my hand. With its many styles of classrooms, common spaces, gyms, and spaces for recreation, it is clear this school tries to make itself welcoming. Last year, renovations of the different athletic fields and courts made a huge improvement to our teams. Along side that, the interior of the school, and most majorly the science labs, have been updated which make chemistry and biology more comfortable and immersive. In all, the physical space of the building is well kept and the students know it.
Yet, as someone on student council, there is a tug-of-war with the administration. It is hard to get simple fundraisers, events, or clubs approved. Even school spirit events are hard to find support with, and It feels like a constant battle with the administration to get events approved.
But, South Lyon is an outstanding school, and you can see the devotion from the teachers and staff.

I had a good experience at South Lyon High School and enjoyed my time these past 4 years. I always enjoyed how unique South Lyon was in comparison to neighboring schools, such as the traditions we have special to us. Social events such as the Homecoming pep assembly are some of my fondest memories of high school. The football games were always full of fun and an electric atmosphere, and there was no better way to spend my time than supporting my school. The environment South Lyon had was second to none, and I always felt supported by faculty, fellow classmates, and administration.
