My experience at South Lyon East high school has been remarkable. Throughout the years I've been in jazz band, marching band, link crew, student council, and National Honors Society. There have been many fun events and clubs I also could have been a part of. The staff is very supportive and we even have two service dogs to help with many students with anxiety. I will never forget this school; it feels like yesterday I was just a freshman entering the building for the first time very excited but terrified. GO COUGARS!
I have done all four years in this school. I’d say that my experience has been pretty average. It’s not a bad school, but it definitely lacks in opportunities such as AP classes (and you can only take APs starting junior year). There’s also been some issues with shooting/bomb threats, and I have a big issue with how they’ve been administered. For example, when we had the bomb threat, our administrators had us stay in our classrooms while they searched. If there had been a real bomb in the building, we would’ve all suffered the consequences. Instead, they should’ve had us evacuate.
Overall, I would say that I enjoyed my experiences at South Lyon East. Throughout the years that I attended the schools, I was in a variety of sports, clubs, and classes. The sports teams, while not the best, host enjoyable experiences in terms of participating and teammates. I liked quite a few teachers and most have a good idea of what they are teaching and how they convey information. There are also a fair amount of clubs, though I'd say that the school should encourage more to be created.
