I like this school, but there's a lot of room to improve.

The school does a good job of promoting sports clubs, but all the other clubs seem to be less relevant like the math club, robotics, lgbtq+ (I didn't know some of them existed till junior year).

The facility is new and clean. I really liked it.

The teachers were good. Some of them better than others, but overall I think they did a good job teaching.

When I wanted to do something out of the box, I would talk to my counselor and they supported me (sometimes it took a while but) we figured things out. When I tested out of classes I got to take higher-level virtual classes which I enjoyed a lot.

The one problem I had was the lack of diversity and open-mindedness. I lived overseas a lot and I'm multiracial so I had a lot of different opinions, but since everyone's mind was so mainstream (and not really open-minded), I really doubted myself and my opinions. I wish there was more diversity and open-mindedness.

I had a pretty average experience at South Lyon East. There were instances where I enjoyed being in the school district and it was typically in the AP classes as I found them stimulating. I rated my high school to be average as it was better in terms of resources and such compared to other schools, but personally I felt that it could have done a better job at providing resources to students, speaking to them about the opportunities they had. I felt as though I was unaware of certain scholarships or sport starting dates and such. The school communicated this information through the TVs in the room but typically teachers would not leave them on to the broadcasting channel so students were not thoroughly aware of the information.
The staff has significantly impacted the academic atmosphere in the best way possible. All teachers and staff members want every student to excel in the courses that they have chosen. An overwhelming majority of teachers have consistent after school hours to help students struggling in their class. SLEHS also has implemented cougar hour, an extra hour on Tuesday each week, to give students a chance to catch up in any class they need. The school pride that consumes the students just farther improves the school. But, like anything there can always be improvements, there tend to be a lot of student led animosity trod students that struggle with their grades. Students that are not above a 3.5 GPA are often mocked for their grades.
