My experience with South Kitsap High School has been very limited but all my interactions have been good. I have worked with them to attend Tacoma Community College through the running start program. They were helpful and efficient in assisting me and my family in getting the running start paperwork completed, and the people there shared their experience with running start and gave us their advice. Now, although I have never taken a class at the school, I am attending Tacoma Community College as a South Kitsap High School Senior. By the end of the 2021 school year I should graduate with an Associate in Arts degree. Attending South Kitsap High School is a great way for home-schoolers to become eligible for running start and get their first two years of college completed for free. Without much time spent and with minimal paperwork, they have helped me get ahead at Tacoma Community College so that in time most people would be working on their Associates, I should be finishing mine!
South Kitsap High School was overcrowded when I attended and has only become worse the proceeding years. The number of attending students makes the hallways unsafe.
The music program is exemplary with award winning bands and choirs. The band was inclusive and accepting, that community is one of the things that I miss about my time at South. Band provided the best high school memories that a student could ask for.
The choir was a harsh environment and rife with favoritism. It took a trip to Carnegie hall to remember how much I love singing and realize how much I hated singing at South.
The system for absences was infuriating, I should have been offered accommodations for disability related absences when they became an issue. I was not until late in Senior year, after I had made attendance appeals every year.
I have a lot of good memories from South, I also have very strong bad memories. Many of my bad experiences where preventable and beyond the realm of typical teenage drama.

The education here is a mixed bag. SKHS has a wide variety of courses available though, so I can't speak for the quality of all of them. In my experience, many of the teachers are kind and experienced with the subjects that they teach. However, a few of the technology classes here are taught by people with little experience with the applications they're using. These teachers in particular have trouble with maintaining their students' attention and disciplining them.
My experience with scheduling classes became frustrating during my junior and senior years, since I was put into classes that I both didn't need to graduate AND didn't list in my backup classes in case I didn't get what I wanted. I also feel like SKHS didn't inform us seniors about our graduation requirements consistently enough; me and many of my friends didn't get any info about our High School & Beyond plan until our senior year, despite the school intending for us to do certain tasks on Xello during our junior year.
