I liked that in my senior year, they added a study hall class to focus on what grades were the lowest and how to raise them. What they could do better is fix up the technology department.
South was a fantastic experience for our daughter. She had demanding, interesting classes with teachers who cared and the community was friendly and supportive. She grew in so many ways there—academically, in her sport, and as a person. The diverse student body, with kids from all over the world, made it a uniquely rich cultural experience. The size was perfect, not too big or small. Can’t recommend it enough.
Attending South was a fantastic experience. With a vast array of classes, clubs, and sports options, I felt I could pursue what I wanted. I especially liked the teachers there. Out of the 30 or so that I had, I only disliked around 4 or 5. The vast majority were great teachers too. Additionally, I was very involved in the music program at South and, although it is almost entirely run by one person, allowed me to further my musical career greatly and form some great relationships and experiences in the process.
I met amazing friends, and always had someone to pall around with in class. The people at this school are really great and mostly down to earth
I love the fact that south high school is incredibly diverse. I've had a good experience with teachers as well. one of the things I don't like about it, is the way that most material is being taught. the public school curriculum is focused more on memorizing formulas etc, rather than developing students thinking skills. students are so invested in getting the "right" answer rather than letting the information sink in, and actually learning. instead of allowing ourselves to be creative, we're being taught that there is one answer, and it's narrowing the student's ability to think outside the box.
This school is part of DPS. I understand that COVID has turned everything upside down, but the administrators have had almost a year to figure it out, and ultimately the response compared to other schools in the City, State and Nationally has been disappointing. The lack of instructional time plus a pseudo in-person classroom environment where kids are plugged in will set these kids back a full year. I expected more.
My experience at South High School was very good. The school is very welcoming with friendly staff/teachers. The school is very big and has many clubs students can join.
I had a very good experience at South High School. There was a multitude of sports and clubs I could choose to join. All of the teachers were very nice and supportive. I made many friends and had an amazing high school experience.
I transferred to south my junior year and had an amazing experience. The community and spirit there is like no other and everyone loves to be there. My previous school (GW) had little spirit and a lot of people were not happy with their situation but south has the best spirit
I don't really feel like I fit in. Everything is unorganized because of remote learning. I don't make friends there. Also, I don't feel like I get enough support.
I transferred to South in the middle of the week a couple months into my sophomore year. The environment was extremely welcoming and the students are very closely knight. The staff creates a helpful and friendly environment that makes students willing to approach them for any necessary help. The school spirit at South High School is unlike any other as each and every student enjoys getting involved and participating in community activities.
Graduated in 2009 and it was honestly the best time in my life. Im naturally very shy but once I got to South that changed. I excelled in Academics, athletics and extra-curriculars. The teachers are very nurturing and want you to succeed.
Granted it’s been over ten years since I’ve been to South high it was a great experience. The teacher were great and I was lucky enough to be apart of the AVID program which really helped pave my college future.
I transferred there my junior year and felt very unwelcomed by faculty and students. The major problem I noticed within the school was unspoken racism and segregation. As much as the school advocates for equality, there was not much of that. A majority of the immigrant students were often discriminated against or ignored because they either weren't American or had money. The school was extremely whitewashed and was very disappointing to see as an individual who is a first-generation American.
No changes in the school. The school already gotten strict with the rules and I'm able to visit time to time depending on the day I would get my free time to visit.
South High School is incredibly inclusive, it has wonderful diversity and the atmosphere is so welcoming and homey. The teachers are so supportive and the students are kind.
south high school is one of the most diverse high schools in Colorado. i really like the cultural backgrounds that are presented and the acceptance of others.
