As a senior, I’ve spent nearly 4 years in and out of this school! It’s an amazing environment. Of course it has its flaws but nonetheless it’s definitely been a sort of second home to me. I absolutely love the diverse community! We have both students and staff representing numerous countries! The school has had its several shocking moments and low points - hence the 4 star rating and not a 5 - and I have felt the school can improve in certain areas. But it’s definitely one of the better high schools in DPS.

I've gone to South for four years, so I can speak to its quality. It’s diversity is commendable, the array of AP courses is fantastic, and the clubs and activities scene is massive.

Just one example of our diversity community is the fact that every year we have an assembly called "Culture Fest" wherein all students are able to express their cultures with performances of song, dance, poetry, etc.

I have had the chance to take at least 1 AP class each year I've gone to South. It is encouraged to prepare for the future (college or no college) and take classes that challenge and push us to be our best and reach our potential.

I have also been lucky enough to get to participate in a few of the dozens of clubs and activities South has. I've participated in Student Theater, Cross Country, and even Knitting Club! All have been fun and a eye opening.

I highly recommend South to kids who want to widen their perspective, receive a good education, or to prepare for the future.
The biggest positive is the diversity South offers. Being a magnet school for refugees allows my daughter the benefit of experiencing vastly different cultures. This creates a more rich, real world perspective in high school prior to being launched on her life journey. This aspect of her high school years helped create awareness and a more open minded attitude towards differences in our society's cultures, socioeconomics and thinking. Open mindedness and acceptance is needed in our culture.

The academics are diverse as well. It’s possible to get by doing the bare minimum. However, there are advanced, challenging course offerings as well. It's true that your student can make their high school experience what they want. Fortunately, my daughter is self-motivated and has pushed herself taking advantage of the challenging courses available. I am confident my daughter is well prepared for any college she chooses.
