I moved to Forsyth County during my Sophomore year. Moving to a new school during your high school years is hard enough, but finding out you will need open heart surgery during the first year, will test everything about you. The support I received from South Forsyth HS was truly amazing. From the Counselor to the Principal, nursing staff and teachers, the support touched my family deep! I had teachers even come to the hospital! I could not ask for anything more from a school!
Review South Forsyth High School
Very competitive, rigorous environment. That can be both good and bad. Band program needs a total over haul! Directors have awful time management and routinely snap at the students. The marching band just completed the show...one week before the end of the season! The kids put in extensive amounts of time/practice with little to show for it until the end of the season?! Something needs to change or be ready for the county's smallest marching band next year!
The teachers at South are great with accommodating students' with disabilities like me with my ADHD during my early years of high school. The higher level teachers such as the Honors and AP teachers are some of the best rated teachers in the county (and in some years the state!). Our Career Pathway programs are unparalleled in the state because of the incredible teachers who go above and beyond in taking us on fundraised field trips to experience real workplaces such as the Siemens Energy and Automation Plant on Mcfarland Parkway (which I landed an internship in thanks to my manufacturing pathway teacher Mr. Olney). South's teachers have also been recognized as teacher of the year at the state level multiple times, Mr. Crowder - one of South's engineering pathway instructors - as an example. These are really only a few of the PLETHORA of reasons YOU or your child should be interested in joining the South Forsyth Family! However, the only reason I gave this school a 4 out of 5 is because the school itself is in need of a remodel although, new sections are being added onto the school such as a gigantic monstrosity of a gym (which is awesome) as well as a new entrance and lots of extra classrooms!
