South Elgin High School Reviews

The school is definitely crowded and the lunch is terrible regarding nutrition and taste. There are fights often and staff struggle to keep students in class. Besides that, it is a pretty good school and the teachers in my advanced classes have cared a lot about my learning and my future. My experience with sports has been overall pretty good because the community environment has been amazing. The coaches could be better at coaching their sport and being understanding of students and their circumstances, but they are doing their part to coach their teams. Funding is a little confused and the school charged $20 admission for homecoming and then not one square inch of the building was decorated for the occasion. Besides silly things like that it’s a good school.
Most teachers were personable, while others you could tell they just wanted to get their job done and go home without any personal connections with students. The work load was fair and appropriate, some teachers recognize we have lives outside of school with lots of different responsibilities, while others pilled work on us as if we had all the time in the world to get that done. I know many people, including myself, that would stay up really late on countless occasions to make sure work was turned in on time. The wide variety of people I’ve encountered at South Elgin is unmatched and genuinely amazing. Although lots of people may not be the type of people you want to be around, there are still a countless amount of people you would love to surround yourself with.
South Elgin High School is a good school that has offered me many opportunities in sports and academics. I am currently enrolled in my school's Beacon Academy, which offers unique studies and hands-on experience in media and broadcasting. South Elgin also offers a vast diversity of students. I have met people of all races, regions, cultures, and much more. I have become friends with people that have taught me new things about their culture and experiences. I have also found community in my culture, sports, religion, and academics. Here most of my teachers offer extended support. However, I have encountered teachers that I have not agreed with. The school lunches are also not ideal and I personally feel the school has too large of a population. But the school is mostly clean and safe. The staff here care about the students' well-being. With that said there are changes that could be made to improve the school but overall I am happy that I chose South Elgin High School.
