South Anchorage High School is a decent school. Of course, there's no such thing as a perfect high school, but this high school could definitely improve. Here are the pros about South: some of the teachers are actually willing to care about our education and keeping us entertained on the subject, the clubs are spectacular and it's a great way to make new friends, and the resources and facilities like ipads and the amazing library have supported our education. Now here are some cons at South: some teachers can get easily mad at the students and don't really care about teaching us, the diversity is awful - there's only about 8% of students that are non-Caucasian, and I rarely see parents or a PTA around the school helping to educate their children. So, in conclusion, South Anchorage High School is an average school which means it can be good, but also not.
The classes offered are great. Lots of advanced classes. The teachers usually explain things well. But geez as a student I can tell you it's not a very welcoming environment. I'm pretty sure they turn the AC all the way to -50 degrees Fahrenheit 24/7 so we won't sleep in class. Which makes for some terrible days when you have to wear a dress or something. The people at South usually mind their own business and once you find your friend group it's nice. But there are a good amount of questionable kids, especially the 80% of them that do every drug in the book. In my English class, students were full out negotiating a drug deal in front of the staff. At South I was a geek so you can imagine I didn't quite enjoy the annoying rich kids popping pills in the girls' bathroom. Also I think it's common knowledge but the diversity there is not existent and the majority of us are all the whitest white that ever existed. Overall if you are thinking of sending your kid to South, don't........
