From Sonoma Academy

Based on an understanding of the adolescent brain and with the knowledge that learning occurs best in the context of an inclusive and connected community, our curriculum is grounded in a rigorous college preparatory framework. We are multidisciplinary and innovative, giving students the ability to ask the hard questions, and the tools to answer them. We are technologically sophisticated, but we recognize the limitations of technology. We teach critical thinking, cultural competency, and empathy because this is the foundation of true learning.

We love play and humor and art, because we know that they make us human. We also know that a deep grasp of concepts is what helps us to navigate an ever-changing world. We are deeply humanistic, treating every student with profound respect and care. We provide students with the intellectual, social, and ethical foundations necessary to thrive in our changing times, no matter their individual path.

This school is great for developing character and independence, however if you are an academically motivated student the options are limited. The number of acclerated courses is relatatively small, and the only way to excel academically is to take advanced stem courses, because there are no advanced humanities courses, except for electives offered only in senior year. As a high school, Sonoma academy’s admin falls short in helping the academically excelling student experience high school the way they wish too. It is great for those who wish to have a more relaxed experience, but is not for anyone else.

This school feels like home. Its warm and inviting. Students, teachers and parents are friendly, engaging and most importantly, happy. Our son is in his second year and loves everything about SA. SA gives the students a safe environment both physically and emotionally. SA builds confident leaders for tomorrow and adequately prepares their students for life after high school.
I couldn't have asked for a better high school experience. Sonoma Academy really lets students forge their own path. I was a founding member of the school's robotics team, and the first student to do model congress on the debate team. Sonoma Academy really is one of the best decisions you can make going into high school.
