I have had an overall good experience this year at SHS. I couldn't say the same about my freshman year but that isn't really the school's fault. My entire freshman year was virtual due to COVID-19 so I didn't really get a true "your first year of high school experience". This being said, the staff have been extremely kind and understanding when it comes to me getting used to being a high schooler. Aside from that, the family that SHS creates is unmatched. The love and support that the students give to one another just adds so much to each school day. I believe that because of the things that i've listed, it has made SHS students just like myself, have a ton of school spirit. I feel very lucky (and proud) to go to a school with such a positive environment!
There is no other school like Somerset High School. The traditions, the lifelong friends, the amazing role model teachers, Somerset High School has it all. The school only having around 500 students means everyone knows everyone. All of the teachers get to know almost every student in the building, the same as every student getting to know almost evert teacher. It is super east to make friends at SHS. As a band student I really like to brag on the arts programs. I have 2 of the best band directors ever. Mr. and Mrs. Lenox are like my second parents. Our band is like a family. Everyone accepts everyone, and we all stand up for each other. We have an outstanding Musical production as well. Mrs. Foister is an amazing teacher and runs such an amazing production every year. Much like our band program, SHS Musical Production is a big family. Everyone accepts everyone and it is a judgement free zone. We also have amazing sports teams to be involved in as well as other clubs and activities.
Somerset High School was the best high school experience I could have ever asked for. Although this year did not turn out quite like we had expected it to, the other three years of attending this school definitely made up for it. This school has the best traditions possible, from float week, to the homecoming parade, to the first home football game jumper walk, and the pep rally's in the gym. I can with no doubt say Somerset High School welcomes you with open arms and invites you into a family that you never knew you needed.
