Somers High School offered me excellent opportunities during my time as a student there! With a plethora of AP, IB, Honors, Regents, and elective courses, my education has been very diverse and adequately prepared me for college. Every department at Somers High School is very strong, well-staffed, and well-funded. Every student has the chance to excel in every program, and teachers are very invested in their students and want them to learn and grow. The only downside is that the student body is very exclusive, and oftentimes any discussions on real-world events/politics are met with hostility if students disagree with you. A small portion of our student body is very intolerant towards people of color and varying faiths, but generally people are as accepting as a school with a mostly white student body really can be-we aren’t well-prepared to enter more diverse environments despite our school’s efforts to promote tolerance.
My experience at Somers was great. They provide a learning experience like no other and really cater to each student. They have man electives that can get students involved and thinking about their future paths.
I started the fashion class my sophomore year and it greatly impacted where I want to go in the future. I am now going to a design school which I never thought would be possible.
Thanks to all the amazing teachers and faculty that I still keep in touch with today, 4 years after graduating, I am going to get another degree!

Somers high school has a tight knit community of students and teachers, and several resources such as the College & Career Center for post high school paths. The high school also has a large number of students partipating in clubs, such as student council, which I personally enjoy. Clubs such as the student council give students a chance to better leadership skills with developing events and experiencing leadership workshops. Regardless of grade, students within the clubs are friendly with each other. Although Somers High School is lacking in events that celebrate diversity within the school, with the help of student input, more plans to open inclusive schoolwide diversity are being created. With a strong school spirit evident in pep rallys and spirit week, and great academic opportunities, from regents to AP classes, Somers High School is a fantastic school for students to grow.
