Solon is a great school. We excel in academics and extra cirrucular activities, mainly sports. There is not a lot of diversity however the schooldoesn't not cause this. The teachers are nice and very willing to help any student when needed.
I liked the amount of time teachers spend with students. Working with them, giving them feedback, and just helping them in general. I’d like to see a change in amount of staff who are there to help out students with things like homework and tutoring.
My experience at Solon High School prepared me for my next step in life. I attribute my hard work, grades, and study ethics to my teachers.
The school gave me a lot of opportunities in and out of school that I wouldn't get at other places. I like the school's philosophy on being able to do as many activities as you wanted. The school and community is also very tight-knit and will do anything they can to help anyone in need. I also loved getting involved with all the extracurriculars!
I transferred here from a big school. Since it's a small town and small school I thought it would be hard for me from what I was used to my whole life. But it was completely the opposite. I had to move here because I had a stalker who raped me. This school saved my life. The teachers and staff are so kind and welcoming. I got amazing grades because of this and graduation I won awards and got job offers through my CNA that the high school paid for. Before this school I was wanting to end my life..they gave it back to me. And now years later I'm still thankful and still blessed. Thank you Solon <3
Small town school. Everyone is friendly and knows each other and teachers. With such a small school, one on one time with teachers is easy and very helpful. There are multiple opportunities to get help. There are also many different activities to get involved in.
I love Solon high school! Through out my 4 years here, I have felt welcomed and at home. I have received a tremendous education thanks to the great teachers and staff. I decided to take some of the harder, advanced classes here. These math and science courses have made me feel prepared for college! All athletics at Solon High School are fantastic. The support from parents and our community is amazing and I know that all of our athletes appreciate it. Our fine arts are also a big part of what makes Solon high school so great. I have been apart of both choir and jazz choir. These groups have shaped me to be the person I am today. If someone was considering coming to Solon high school, I would encourage them to do so! They will not only get a fantastic education, but their life would be impacted greatly for the better.
I had my fair share of ups and downs with high school, it was hard to find some good quality of friends. I wasn't completely terrible though, I went to football games and participated in musicals were I did enjoy my time there.
The educators there are spectacular. I learn a ton here everyday and I am getting smarter everyday. They expect a lot out of you to be respectful, but overall, it's an amazing school.
My experience with Solon High School has been great. My high school provides the resources and services I need to excel as a student. The staff and teachers that work at the high school are supportive and easy to talk too.
Solon High School is in a small town of Solon, IA. At our school, we create an atmosphere of positive attitudes, self sufficiency, and determination. Every teacher works to better their school and the students attending it. In our small community, we have visitors come to school to help us plan our futures and prove to us that we all have the ability to succeed. In our district, we are #solonstrong.
I like how everyone goes out of their way to include people, no matter who they are. The academics are excellent, and create a proper challenge for students, forcing them to think outside the box and expand their horizons.
I liked how invested our teachers were and thought that we had many educational experiences that many other schools did not. Our athletic teams were incredible but I think that it is important to remind students that academic achievements are just as important. This is coming from a former athlete so I have seen both sides of the spectra. The only complaint that I had was that the school dances were never that great. We need to let students dance in the gym or rent a place to go and hire a better DJ. Let them listen to whatever music they want and dance how they like. It is better to have them want to come than to not, because if they do not come then they will want to go out and party. That is the only thing I could see improved, but overall I would rate this as a great experience.
The health and safety policies at this school are great. They inform us when we will have drills for things such as in the case of an armed gunman in our school, or when we will have a drug dog come in a do a drug sweep in our school and in the parking lot.
There are a lot of variety of clubs and organizations at this school that students can be involved in. For example, a few years ago we just added Archery to the schools sports program! There are always students who are involved in more than one sport, club, or other programs at Solon High School.
I would choose this school again because in your graduating class everyone knows everyone on a first name basis. Also, the staff are very personable and you can go to them with any situation that you have and they can help you find a solution to the problem. What I like about this community is that no matter if anyone has a student going to the school or not they always come out and support all of our programs ranging from sports to music.
The teachers at Solon High School are always very friendly and willing to help a student no matter if that student is not in one of their classes. The teachers teaching styles vary but they are very effective and get the students engaged and interested in the topic they are discussing in class. Their grading tends to differ, obviously due to the different type of material, but overall they still use the same grading scale.
