Solebury really IS what school should be. My son applied because he knew he was missing something important in his education - engagement. Solebury's teachers are THE BEST at finding that spark and igniting that love of learning and getting every kid involved in some fashion. Three years of growth and progress, graduation and college on the horizon - what more can a mom of a teenaged boy ask for?

There are some problems that have gotten worse during the current 2015-2016 year with the boarding situation. There are many negatives affecting only boarders. This is in connection with the new 2015-2016 required Tuesday night dorm curriculum, required community weekends for boarders, required chores and duties, and accompanying set of rules, practices and requirements enforced upon boarders, that comes along with different punitive and punishment aspects as well as side effects affecting the ability of boarders to choose how they use their free time and also interfering with or limiting their time for homework and studying. These aspects do not apply to, and nothing similar is enforced upon, day students. Overall, for many students, this makes it a disadvantage to be a boarder at this school, both in terms of boarders having less choice in how to spend free time as well as having less time for homework and studying and as well as having much more vulnerability for disciplinary actions and punishments than day students with equivalent behavior and needs would normally have available when living at home. Additionally, the staff member in charge of the dorm program does not appear to prioritize the boarders' personal and academic related needs no matter what the situation is, and appears to frequently abuse their power and take their frustrated emotions out on the boarders very inappropriately.
I came in as a junior and really enjoyed my stay, mostly because I barely had to do anything. I never really felt as though I had to keep up with my responsibilities and did what I wanted, when I wanted.
