The administration is very open with their students and parents and actually listen to them and their needs. They don't just make a decision based on their own views and opinions. They embrace the entire community and are willing to work with all families no matter their background. Their sports programs, however, need a lot of help with coaching. Their coaches are very political and only play certain players based on their like or dislike of them. They don't play players that will help them win games even though those kids are better and are proven more than the kids that the coaches put on the fields! Overall, however, I think Socastee is a great school!
I moved to Socastee in the 10th grade. I had come from a small school in New York to this large school with over 400 kids per grade. The school has many resources, they have the IB room for students who are taking IB courses. They have a wonderful library that is open to all students. Socastee takes pride in their sports and their academic success. The staff are kinda half and half, most really enjoy their jobs and what they do while the others are more passive. I like Socastee but it being such a big school you kinda lose the personalness that you should have. It's difficult to converse with students in your grade level unless you're in the same classes with them. It was hard to make friends at this school. I also believe that with all the funding the school gets they can afford to renovate the bathrooms, and at least get us warm water in the bathrooms and all classrooms. Overall it's your average high school in South Carolina.
I graduated from Socastee 2 years ago in 2017. While the athletics program has had a few minor kinks over the past 4 years, the school thrives in every other aspect. The students are surprisingly kind as well as the instructors. The diversity is fairly mixed with a slight majority of white/Caucasian's. The instructors are all prepared and have insight on how to better a young man/woman for their future. There are nearly 80 clubs and activities combined, all of which are renowned. The food is just like grandma used to make, and the culture is great! Besides the few mistakes the athletics program made the school is phenomenal and should be promoted as such as far as I am concerned.
