During my early adolescent school years attending the Jackson County school system I had a very pleasant experience, so it was only natural that I continued my highschool years there. The teachers were very attentive in the growth of my education, of which I was very fortunate. I remember very fondly the first time I was greated by the massive lobby of Smoky Mountian High, granted I was a bit scared coming from a much smaller school I found my place within those infamous halls. As I mentioned before the teachers were always understanding and ready to accomadate any need I had regarding the school work they assigned. Every step of my journey through that school was guided by amazing people who I had the pleasure of calling my educators moreover I hope they are still molding young minds like they did mine. Also for the young adults that follow the same path just know your going to be attending one of the finest schools Western North Carolina has to offer!
Smoky Mountain's environment is incredibly supportive; the principal encourages students to get involved, come to her with ideas on how to improve the student experience, and often expresses that she has an "automatic yes" when it comes to student ideas and pursuits. The teachers are passionate about what they teach and are incredibly willing to help students in whatever way they can--writing recommendations, offering tutoring sessions, or acting as advocates for student success. The support staff are friendly and helpful, and the Student Support Center offers thorough guidance in academics, college readiness, and preparation for students' entrance into adulthood. Overall, Smoky Mountain High School offers a range of classes, including many AP's, and encourages students to become their best selves, guiding them in deciding "what comes next," whether it is a 4 year university or entering the workforce.
Smoky Mountain High School is full of friendly faces and a loving faculty. I have enjoyed my four years of education at this school and will take a lot of the memories I have made with me for the rest of my life. The classes offered at this school are wonderful and provide many learning experiences no matter the field of study. I have personally taken a liking to the classes offered pertaining to the arts such as musical theater and play production. Although, I also enjoy other electives such as foods, apparel, and weights classes. I believe Smoky Mountain is a pleasant place to attend overall.
