Smithson Valley High School Reviews

I like the positive atmosphere at Smithson Valley High school, everyone is so nice there. The only problem I have is we have to wear IDs. I can understand why we wear them though. I also think the Assistant principals could be more forgiving; they seem very strict. All the teachers i’ve had throughout the years at Smithson Valley have been very kind and flexible with me. I honestly think it’s a good school and we are very fortunate to be able to attend a school like this. I feel like some students take Smithson Valley for granted, but compared to other schools I think our school is average to moderately good!
Smithson Valley is one of the best schools in Texas. The academics are extremely competitive and so are the sports teams. Every teacher there is nice with an exception of a few older teachers. The dress code and other school policies are normal. Whenever there is an on-campus issue, the administration is always quick and discrete when handling the issue, communicating to the parents, staff, and students with transparency. ComalISD itself is run very well and the environment is uplifting and positive. The only critiques I have for Smithson Valley HS is that it does not validate its artists enough. The art department is severely underfunded and overshadowed by the many other electives offered on campus, mainly those that participate in UIL activities.
The administration at Smithson Valley High School does not advocate for students who are experiencing bullying, racism, homophobia, or any other form of harassment. In fact, the administration punishes and embarrasses these students when they reach out for help from the administrators who are supposed to ensure their mental health. The majority of the teachers are great and truly care about their students, however the school only allocates funds to high-value sports (namely football) at the expense of lower level staff and teachers. Smithson Valley does not prioritize the mental health or wellbeing of any of its students which are not on a sports team or a member of the PTA (other connections as well), and the school very frequently covers up information which would make the school look bad with lies and fabricated stories.
