Smithson is very competitive in the sports area, and love football! I would like to bring up the AP or Pre Ap classes of any kind. I do understand that they are meant to be more challenging, but thay are not meant to put so much pressure apon students that they develop anxiety and depression. Everthing else in the school is perfect and iys a joy to go here.

Smithson Valley High School has a strong sense of school spirit that can be both contagious and corrupt. However, its academics (although not always the community's priority) is extremely preparing for the future of college. Teachers are invested in their student's lives and each child receives an impact, transforming them into outstanding members of society. The school and district itself has room to improve its facilities of restrooms, air conditioning etc. which should already be addressed considering its football program has televisions in their lockerroom. Overall, the memories I share at Smithson Valley are both shaped from the academic lessons Ive learned and the teachings of character of which the high school is all about.
Attending is an average experience for me, however, going to a predominately white school while being African American is a struggle with having racial animosity that is prevalent in many students of the school and the connection/consideration of administrators to students is not very high. Sports is the most important issue for the school and support them financially but cannot replace the water systems so that the water in the school bathrooms, toilets, actually work. The school however does a great job with their readiness for college through AP classes. Being in mostly AP classes, I feel as though I am achieving that readiness for college and with the school helping students with any college related issues almost immediately, it helps make the stress of college easier. They also employs many, not all, fantastic teachers who care about the students future and made me feel as though I could achieve anything. The school may have its flaws that can only be fixed with effort and time.
