Smithsburg high school was overall a great school for what it had to work with. It had teachers and faculty who truly seemed to care about their students and put the most they could into giving them a good education, however they were often limited by a lack of funding. Compared to other schools in the county, the facilities were much worse and so was the equipment. Sports equipment, band instruments, and academic equipment all had a much lower quality than the other schools in the county. For example, I believe out of every school in the county, Smithsburg was the last to receive school iPads, a feature that was becoming necessary long before any school got them. The food there was also often far from good. The pizza would be made at the beginning of the week, and then it would continue to be recycled to the end of the week. Any leftovers from the first day would be put back in the oven and cooked with an extra layer of cheese the next day.

Smithsburg is a very small school because it is located in such a small town. Although some would think that makes it less appealing and less involved, it has made everyone grow closer as a class. Having a graduating class of only about 150 students, everyone knows everyone personally which has made the past four years unforgettable. Our academics our strong and everyone involved in our athletic programs are extremely dedicated. I am very proud to be a graduate from Smithsburg High School.
Smithsburg is a good school when it comes to academics. Our teachers are involved with a lot of clubs and spend time helping students in and out of class. Our athletics are average. We don't win all of the time but our student body makes up for it. We all participate in the student sections at sporting events and show our school pride by doing different themes for each game. For example, at football games we do color outs and even American outs. This has been one of my favorite parts about my high school.
