Overall, Smith Cotton High has certainly been an experience. We have highly comparable class choices to schools around us. Most teachers seem to care and often send help outside of school to keep students above water. Personally we're missing out on an archery team but who could blame them for not hosting a sport with so little attention. Our arts programs could use some love but the students suffice without perfect equipment and they do it well! We're blessed to have as many STEM opportunities as we do. With engineering classes, robotics, and advanced science classes there's much student involvement in STEM programs such as Project Lead the Way. Resources for college readiness tend to lack any "umph". Any scholarships I've applied to have not been through our guidance office, though they're here for college guidance. So, with it's ups and downs, Smith Cotton has certainly been an unforgettable period of my life but tends to lack resources and help in the admin and guidance aspects.
Smith-Cotton has so many classes to offer. It has a variety of Project Lead the Way, weighted, Dual Credit, and Advanced Placement classes, as well as many other classes to choose from. There are also many specific classes for students who already know what they want to do. There are so many clubs that any student would be able to find one they are interested in joining. They also have all of the major sports teams, as well as some of the less major ones like golf, tennis, cross country, and even a very successful robotics team. Most of the teachers are super friendly and great at teaching and this school has many technological advancements as well. Each student gets a Chromebook when they enroll that they can use for all of their classes, as well as anything else they would like to do. When they graduate, they can even buy their Chromebook at a very reasonable price. Smith-Cotton is a great school that matches every student's wants and needs.
I have enjoyed every part of my time at Smith-Cotton Highschool. I have been involved in JROTC, Upward Bound, and also Track and Field. I would say Smith-Cotton does a good job on demonstrate to kids that their education matter more than they think. They off programs such as the Roadrunner, where kids are allowed to take college courses at a college. This helps them because they are allowed to get some college experience throughout their high school life. I would not change anything much but one thing I would to change is making more clubs. I know we have plenty but make more gets more kids to be involved and they are allowed to form clubs of interested. Overall I do feel like I am very fortunate to go to such an amazing school.
