Sierra Vista Middle School was an overall wonderful experience with a great community! Students are so lovely and welcoming and transportation is simple since the community layout is excellent. Teachers are very encouraging and kind and make lessons very interactive and exciting. The school offers various clubs and sports equipment for lunch and break. Programs such as their Youth Action Team and National Junior Honor Society create a wonderful culture at the school and allow students to volunteer for the school and community. Some improvements that I would suggest however would be to create a more variable school lunch menu and greater shade structures or even indoor seating. There is hardly any shading over many of the lunch tables and the ones that do have umbrellas are rarely utilized. The school also only offers breakfast/snacks for 10 minutes during the school day and providing breakfast/break before school starts would give students more time to enjoy their food.
Sierra Vista in my 2 years at it was overall a good school. At this school, I took the honor class and the advanced math class. Most of the classes are well done and help you learn and prepare for high school. In my opinion, the worst class at this school would be their science and ELA classes. Where this school shines is its music, history, and science Olympiad programs. Sierra Vista is a Powerhouse school in National History Day. The school usually represents 50-75% of California at Nationals, easily one of the best schools in the nation at NHD. The other strong suit of this school is the music program, which is lead by a grammy Finalist. Next is Science Olympiad, and Mathcounts. As a member of the sci-oly team, I can say that we are one of the strongest schools in the state. We are by no means a powerhouse school like Jeffery Fails, but we do get 7-4 place at state best being 2.
I had the best time at Sierra Vista Middle School. I was not from one of the feeder schools into this middle school but I felt so included and I made so many close friends and before I knew it, it was like Sierra Vista was my home. I have so many fond memories with friends and I remember my teachers and how well they taught me. My eighth grade math teacher was one of them. Even though math wasn't my favorite subject, she was one of my favorite teachers and I will always remember her. In the GATE program at Sierra Vista, we were required to do NHD in our history classes. We learned so much about a topic we had to choose and relate back to the theme of that year. It really has helped me become a better student. When I went to Sierra Vista, SciOly was a club but right now it is a class. When i tried out for SciOly as a eighth grade I had no idea what was in store for me. It was so much fun! I feel like because of Sierra Vista, I am a more confident student and overall person.
