I have been a teacher at Sierra Canyon for many years. I left after 18 years and taught at another school, but gradually made my way back home. The community, culture, and overall educational experience offered is something so unique that I couldn't stay away. I always felt like I was on loan until I came back. Sierra is a place that become a home. The feeling of belonging and comfort is something unique to Sierra, whether as a teacher or a student. Relations developed are forever, evidenced in the return of children of past students, and continued communication between teachers, parents , and students who have graduated. This is my happy place!

Sierra Canyon is an ideal educational experience. Both my children started in pre-kindergarten and continue today in 5th and 7th grade. The dynamic, creative, and intellectually stimulating teachers created an invaluable love for learning to each of my children. They are challenged to reach their full potential while enjoying every minute of their school day. From Solar Car races, Mock Trials, Colonial Days, and Books Clubs, they are engaged in interactive lessons that inspire them to think critically and analytically. Student Council, orchestra, rock band, math team, programing, and dance became the favorite enrichment activities in our household. Sierra Canyon provided the perfect combination of an academic environment while fostering their emotional and social development. As a parent, I feel a part of the community and my children’s education. We know our children are in the right hands to be prepared for college and a successful future in a continually challenging world.
I have had the distinct privilege of working at Sierra Canyon School nearly 7 years now. In these years that I have spent teaching 6th grade English and working with the Lower School Language Arts curriculum I have witnessed the creativity, collegial spirit, and drive of our teachers, the unwavering support of our administration and parent population, and the genuine love of learning and generosity of spirit of our students. My first class of 6th graders will be seniors this year. I can say without hesitation that attending Sierra Canyon School has helped shape these young men and women into intelligent, independent individuals whose commitment is evidence in their scholastic and extracurricular pursuits. Sierra Canyon feels small (despite its size) in the best ways: strong student/teacher relationships and mutual trust and appreciation, warm and receptive leadership from administration, and a palpable sense of community from Pre-K through 12th grade.
