SHS is a great school with really caring, knowledgeable, and friendly teachers! The IB is a great program, and while difficult, there is so much support provided by the school to get through it, including the butler writers center, free after school tutoring, and teachers who will always give you extra help and answer your questions thoroughly. However, the student body as a whole is not the most academic, especially the freshmen and sophomores. There are frequent fights as well as people who skip class or don’t do their assignments, and often the entire school is affected by this behavior. This can be extremely frustrating and at points it is difficult to stay motivated to do your best, but overall, you make Shortridge as academically challenging as you want it to be and can find friends who are also good students.
The IB curriculum is stressful but worth it. It teaches students to think critically and analytically. The workload is horrid, especially in the midst of the pandemic though. Hopefully future students can have a better experience than I did. It was fun while it lasted but I’m glad to be graduating now. Shortridge itself is fine, the school is a little old but it has rich history and I loved my teachers!
I was one of the students who originally went to Broad Ripple. Unfortunately, it closed and a lot of us came to Shortridge. At first it was very tough to adapt to how different this school really was. I've received so much support from teachers and other staff members who genuinely care about education and the safety of the students there. One thing I want to make very clear is that you need to be able to keep up with your classes and never be afraid to reach out for help. There are so many resources out there, and if Shortridge does not have them, I guarantee you they will do all that they can to help. It is overall a great school!
