My experience at Sherwood High School has been, overall, very good. I have met some incredible people, I have had wonderful teachers, and I feel like I have learned a lot in all of my classes. Sherwood's educators have helped me maintain my 4.0 GPA and helped me score fives on AP exams. I think Sherwood's athletics program allows for a lot of great school spirit and camaraderie between students. Furthermore, I have had an incredible experience in the Academy of Health Professions program offered at Sherwood. I was able to acquire a CNA license before graduating high school! Many schools don't offer this program. I believe Sherwood has a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere that helps promote learning. If I were to say something negative, it is that Sherwood seems to have a predominantly white student population. I feel like my school experience could have been different if there was a greater amount of diversity in my environment.
Sherwood High School has been my home for almost 3 years; and I have definitely had my ups and downs. The teachers truly care for the students and teach with passion towards their respective subjects. I have built many great bonds with my teachers and feel as if each and every one of them have gotten the best out of me. The music department is amazing as well, as we have an annual "Rock and Roll Revival," which is a student-led concert that attracts people of all ages around the state of Maryland. Sherwood High School has given students like me many opportunities that were extracurricular whether it be playing a sport or college opportunities. One thing that I feel can be changed is school spirit and the administration. Our school has been involved in some controversy at sporting events where students have been accused of saying racially insensitive comments towards students of another school. Our administration denied the accusations and have not done a good job defending Sherwood.
My experience at Sherwood High School can be said to be eye-opening. During my four years as a student, I have encountered numerous different kinds of people, with different backgrounds, interests, and mindsets. It has allowed me to see how I am as a person, what I want in the future, with my time-management and decision-making skills that have evolved throughout the years here. I acknowledged the resources the college and career teacher sends out to everyone with many opportunities that varies. However, something I would like it to change, more so have are more courses. I have noticed that business courses are not widely a thing, it lacks clubs for it, attention. I would have liked it to be a required class and have many classes that would be in that area for students since it can be used in the real world. But I see that they are working on it and would overall say Sherwood is a confronting and exciting school to go to and spend four years in.
