Sherman Thomas Charter High School really is a great school for those looking to improve themselves and come out a better and more educated person. I have many fond and wonderful memories from there that I wouldn’t trade for anything. Having said that, it wasn’t all great either. I unfortunately have to criticize the school for their handling of STEM classes and the amount of work places on the teachers when I was there. It created a lot of unnecessary tension between the teachers and the administration, which took away from the student’s education. While I left extremely knowledgeable in the humanities, my understanding of mathematics and science was seriously lacking, something particularly harmful for me being a STEM Major now. The school has astounding potential to be great, and in many ways it already is such. But a fundamental reworking of the administration and how it goes about handling issues and the distribution of work among all the teachers is seriously needed.

Sherman Thomas Charter High School is a very good school if you like small schools. There are very little students so it's better to have one on one time with teachers if you need help. The teachers here at Sherman Thomas do everything in their power to see you achieve your goals. They push you and encourage you to get to where you want to be in your life. Students learn and grow through community service throughout their community. In the 2 years I have been here, I have learned a lot and have been able to visit colleges in central California. I am very thankful to have the teachers that I do because they only want the best for me.
Sherman Thomas Charter High is probably one of the worst schools to send a student, expecting them to prepare for college, enhance their creativity, and respectfully have their opinions heard.
Once a week, several of the same students share how "America has gone crazy for less than 1 percent of the population" and seeing LGBTQ representation on TV is "propaganda." An example of this occurred when my teacher stated, "gay people opened the door for everyone wanting equality." She placed pedophillia and homosexuality in the same category when they are completely different.
I have been angry to the point of tears due to their insensitivity and ignorance to realize that their words hurt people, but they disregard that because "gay people are so easily offended."
I am grateful that I am confident enough in my sexuality and that people's irrelevant opinions of my community will not hold me back from standing up for what I believe is right.
