We switched to Sheridan during the pandemic joining a small community that focused on the safety of our children while limiting the disruption to their education. The administration did a stellar job. What truly stands out is how well rounded a Sheridan education is. In addition to the more traditional academics, its arts and music instruction as well as its focus on diverse communities through the student clubs is truly exceptional. We chose a K-8 school because of the added focus on the middle school years which can be difficult transition years. As the school skews young the older kids don’t grow up too fast. This is a gentle school. Middle school students mentor the lower school students. My son loves his mentor and he looks forward to becoming a mentor to a lower school student himself. Finally, Sheridan is a school that builds confidence. In 7th grade, students lead their own high school selection under the guidance of their teachers. This is incredibly empowering!
Pretty mid school overall. Doesn’t really teach history or geography so once you get to high school you’re pretty screwed. They are extremely progressive to the point where you barely get homework and stress is completely eliminated. Does not prepare you in one bit. It should probably just change to an elementary school because it is very centered around little kids and does not cater to middle school students. Some great teachers and cool people but definitely a very mixed community with a lot of theatre kid types and almost completely liberal setting. Overall a school where you will kind of cruise through your years without real stress of homework.
Sheridan School has proven throughout the Covid-19 pandemic that teachers & faculty are up to the task and are more than meeting our expectations with distance learning. Sheridan's teachers have adapted their teaching methods to meet the challenges, offering a variety of online interactive all class, small group and one-on-one learning experiences. We've also been impressed with Sheridan's focus on social/emotional wellness for the students. Our older son, who is normally a highly engaged student, started to show signs of disinterest and lack of attention to projects. We asked the school for help, and without missing a beat, we met with our son's teachers, our school counselor and our Lower School Head. All of them were incredibly helpful in developing strategies for distance learning and boosting our son's overall enthusiasm. If we're faced with another semester of distance learning (fingers crossed we are not!), we are grateful to be a part of the Sheridan community.
