Small school. Big opportunities. This is how we describe our school to friends that ask how we like Shepaug. We have two students in Shepaug. We appreciate the approach our administration has taken to employ a mix of career educators and professionals who made the transition from corporate careers to teaching. Together they create a foundation on which our students have the opportunity to learn beyond the textbook. What truly sets Shepaug apart from other schools are the opportunities for students to invest time on their own in academics, athletics, civic engagement and performing arts through after-school activities. We see many students like ours, excelling in Statewide, Regional and National competitions. All in all, Shepaug has proven to be the right choice for our family and we are thrilled to be able to raise our children in a small school district that provides access to tremendous opportunities.

Shepaug is a very small school and community which has it's pros and cons. Because of the small number of students, the teachers know each student very well and most go above and beyond to help. However, it can be difficult socially because many of the kids have been classmates since middle school. Shepaug doesn't have a huge variety of options when it comes to courses, however they do have a Virtual Highschool Program (VHS) which offers a whole new range of varied courses. Also, if there isn't a separate honors course for a particular subject, many offer "honors challenges" so that the students can challenge themselves and get a boost in their GPA. The guidance department is fantastic and help students with every part of the college process. Overall, Shepaug is a safe and friendly school and the academic rigor really depends on how much effort the student puts in.
Shepaug has an excellent environment which combines a small-town community with teachers who really care about their students. With small class sizes, students can get the individual help that they need and leave the school completely prepared for college or work.
