Shelby High School provided me so many opportunities to develop as a person. My freshman year I felt confident going in to the high school but during my first varsity basketball year I was put in a place that was difficult. Through those adversities I truly found a strong person in myself that was determined to make a positive impact on the underclassman. My senior year was so rewarding as I was student council president and captain of all three sports I was in. I lead with respect and made sure inclusion was a priority for all students. I loved going to Shelby High School and forever thankful to the staff, students and community that supported my education and helped me be the the person I am today.

Shelby High School provides a great academic environment with multiple technological resources, agriculture resources, field experiences, music, sports and clubs. Although when I was in school last year, some things at the school need change such as more AP courses, but they have recently added new college credit courses instead which gives direct college credit to students. Also, I wish the school would allow for change. They don't like to be different and it isn't hardly diverse. We were not allowed to have a National Honors Society, petition around school, or try to add a soccer team. However, I strongly believe the academics of SHS are very preparing for the future. Also, sophomores have three different paths to choose from for their junior & senior year such as going to a trade school, or staying at the HS for college prep, or going straight into college and beginning working towards their associates.
Smiles on students faces, teachers who take time to help their students, organizations that encourage student involvement, and sports programs with a rich history of community pride are only a few things that make Shelby High School stand out. In a small rural community in Ohio, tradition is honored. I know that my coursework has helped me to be college ready with the support of an outstanding staff of teachers, having been a three sport athlete has instilled in me a determined work ethic and driven leadership skills, and the clubs that I am involved in like FFA and student council have taught me life skills which have enabled me to interact and serve my community. In looking for areas of improvement at SHS, I would like to see more job shadowing opportunities with area professionals. I am thankful for my community, school, and the chance of being awarded a scholarship that will support me in my journey into college.
