My experience at SMNW was overall a positive experience. I am happy and grateful to say that I went to a very good high school with a good education system and plentiful resources. The majority of my teachers were amazing and passionate instructors! Classes sizes were a good size, not too packed but also not too small. Our high school building was a good size as well, maybe not the most modern or aesthetic looking school but nevertheless it just your typical looking HS. I will say I would have wished for my natural lighting! As for the school culture I would say that my high school has alot of school spirit. People were relatively friendly. I would say our HS had one of the best diversity of people out of the other nearby high schools. I felt like it was easy to fit in. Overall I had a good time in high school and I feel like I got a good education from it. Still have some good memories from attending NW.
Shawnee Mission Northwest is an excellent 4-year public high school that focuses on student success. There are a variety of clubs, athletics and special interests that appeal to a wide spectrum of the student body.
The student body is a semi-diverse population, but the school takes great care in ensuring a welcoming and safe place of learning for each and every student.
The teaching staff is strong and does not experience much turnover. There are teachers that have been at Shawnee Mission Northwest for many years and take great pride in being part of the traditions and current student body by attending events and athletic contests.
School spirit is very high . Student support at all events, not just athletics are really inspiring. The traditions and the support that they offer have prepared me for a successful college journey.
There are always alumni coming back to the home of the cougars. I look forward to that as well.

I love going to Northwest it is a great school! There are so many different opportunities that I have been lucky enough to be involved in that have made me a better person. The IB program is great and challenges students in different ways to help us be prepared for college. The teachers are all so great! I was out sick with the for almost 2 weeks and all of my teachers have been so understanding and have given me generous extensions for all my missing work. There are also so many different clubs that are inclusive to everyone and there truly is a club for everyone at Northwest. The school spirit is beyond believable. Students here know how to support their school and how to show up! The cafeteria food is not bad at all! It offers different spices that you can put on your food! The students here are so talented and always surprise me with what they can all do. The music and arts are awesome! Overall I really love going to this school and can vouch that it is great!
