Had a lot of frustrating experiences with several teachers and administrators; tried to bring issues with one teacher to the principal's attention but was never responded to. Cafeteria runs out of food in 7th period.
Aside from that had some very good teachers, including the Japanese language teacher and the senior lit teacher Mr. Shannon. The Japanese program in specific I found extremely good. The teacher puts in a ton of effort and secures so many opportunities for those learning the language, his lessons are very fun. Never had a better one; I could say a million good things about his class, especially the higher levels.
The art program is pretty well funded too. We had all the supplies we needed, enough to experiment and have lessons in oil painting, acrylics, pastels, watercolors, sculptures, spraypainting, etc. If you have an idea then they will be very willing to help you out! Boyles gives a LOT of freedom in his highest class as well, and that's the one I'd recommend.

Amazing performing arts department! Directors do everything they can for their kids to grow, not only as musicians, but people too! We have won many local, and national awards. We had even won an award given to only 500 schools across the nation this year because of how well our program is. This year we went to disney and we performed in the Magic Kingdom parade infront of 45,000 people. It truly was magical.
Shaler Area High School was a decent school to attend. It had many clubs and activities that students could join, as well as a diverse amount of sports to play. However, it lacked in preparing the students for college. They offered select AP courses, but did not engage in student college-readiness. At times the administration, due to lack of funding, had to cut away certain programs and teachers. Rather than building new gyms and sports complexes, the little money they do have should be invested in academics and finding proper teachers in preparing students for the college atmosphere. While attending, there were teachers whose aim was to help students for the future and did a fine job. However, there were many teachers who lacked the drive and motivation in preparing their students for life after high-school. Overall, Shaler Area High School was an average public high school to attend with both positive and negative attributes.
