While I have grown up in the Shakopee school system and appreciate everything I have, I cannot say that it was always stellar but I can say the effort was put in. I think every town has its fair share of hardships and it comes down to how it's handled- Shakopee had its good days and its bad as expected but, I think that the community was strong, willing, and always pushed to find the best solution to any problem faced. I am grateful for the community and for the heart this town has.
I really enjoy the academy structure where you take classes based on your academy choice. The teachers are awesome and set you up for success!
Great teachers. Many different class options. The academies make a big school seem smaller and more personal.
All the Honors/AP teachers are fantastic, others are hit or miss. The admin is hit or miss as well. The new building is wonderful but the fact we don't have soup as a lunch option anymore is so unfair.
I liked going here I made friends and enjoyed my classes, but there are a lot more things the staff is involved in other than education. Like making the school look like a college and putting in a state of the art football field, unnecessary signs, and technology. The counselors do not try to be involved with the students as much as they should be and making sure they are all okay.
I love Shakopee Senior High School because it is a unique school. There are many college opportunities and advanced classes that give students like me a chance to experience real-world experience.
Shakopee High School is an awesome school! Filled with opportunities and advancement in technology. Ranging from the extended building, study spaces, academics, and opportunities for Post Secondary classes.
SHS is a very career-oriented school. They sort sophomores into academies based on career preferences, and each student has to complete a beginner, intermediate, and advanced class related to said academy. Students can take classes different from their academies, allowing them to explore their options even more. The schedule consists of 4 1.5 hour classes instead of the traditional 7 45-minute classes. I personally like this model, but I know people who don't. Most of the teachers love their students and want them to succeed. Most. Also, the school lunch is terrible, but there is a panini line and most of the students get that instead. There is plenty of diversity in race, religion, sexuality, etc. I feel safe here, but I don't know if this applies to people in marginalized groups. Finally, there are, at least before the pandemic, lots of extracurricular activities to make you stand out on a college application.
One thing that sets Shakopee Senior High School apart from other schools in the area is the academy approach that they switched to a couple of years ago. At Shakopee, there are seven different academies starting with the freshman academy which sets ninth-graders up for a successful high school career. As a Sophomore, you then choose to go into one of the six other academies. These include academies include Arts and Communication, Business and entrepreneurship, Engineering and Manufacturing, Health Sciences, Human Services, and Science and Technologies. Through these academies, students can explore different career paths and unique classes that help prepare students for life after high school. Beyond the classes, Shakopee has a wide variety of clubs and sports that ensures all students can find involvement in an area of interest.
I have had a great experience at Shakopee High School. The administration always looks for any way that they can help their students and make the school a better experience.
I thought that Shakopee High School provided me a great end to my secondary schooling experience. I think that the education was of a very high caliber and the environment was one that challenged me to become a better student. I found that all of the staff members were very helpful and were people that I could ask for help from, ask about things I wanted to do, and go to if I was having any troubles. In the same way, the students at Shakopee High School were encouraging, friendly, and willing to work hard along side of me so that we could achieve our goals in high school. My experience at Shakopee was faced with many challenges being that the school switched to a block schedule, the school had to close due to the Corona virus, and the school expanded from a 10-12 school to a 9-12 high school. I think that through all of these changes during my time there, the administrators handled it very well, making all of them smooth transitions, and an environment that was east to learn in.
Shakopee High School is an amazing place. There is a certain culture there that thrives off of each other's energy, from the staff to the students. Every student and faculty member takes the time to get to know one another and form deep personal connections that make you want to go to school!
Shakopee High School has excellent programs to help students prepare for college, including bigger class sizes and longer “block” periods of time. The staff is overall amazing when it comes to wanting your student to succeed as well as being there for them on a bad day. The facilities at Shakopee High School are amazing! With the field house, it holds practices for wrestling, basketball, tennis, softball and baseball, dance team and track and field. The activities the Student Council plan as well are always a big hit that allow many people get together and experience new cultures, like the culture fest, and they put together spirit weeks to get the whole school together which is a great turn out!
Overall it is a good school but budgeting could be better. Teachers are generally really good with either decent to quality made work depending on the teacher.
The Academies of Shakopee is a great way for students to find their career path. With the separated academies, students can choose what path they are looking to go towards and choose from many electives in their own or other academies to expand their education and look into their future.
I went to Shakopee senior High school it was weird because it was my first and last year there. I was new to the system they had set up for their previous students. The school is really big I got lost multiple times and it really nice. They don’t have many sports and clubs. Not really diverse but out of Jordan, Pior Lake, and Lakeville it’s more diverse so they say but who knows.
I love the teachers! I wish I got to take more interesting classes. As a senior I was able to start a club and got a lot of help from the school officials.
